My cousin is having a helluva time with his new Benelli. Shoots at least 8" high at 20 yards.

Has anyone else had this problem? He just got it so it's been on 1 hunt and he didn't kill a bird. Watched him change chokes 3 times and he was completely dumbfounded. Wished he brought his old 870 hahaha

Reading online I see you can adjust the barrel ring on the magtube to change POI. It's red loctited on so have to heat up and move with channel locks and it voids warranty.

Adjusting drop and comb would help a bit too likely but I can't see it lowering POI that much.

Can't imagine buying a 3000$ gun to have to do this to make it shoot straight, I know what I'd do.

But can't tell these Benelli guys anything, Glad I shoot a Browning LOL

Anyone have a remedy for this issue? I know it's fairly common with some batches of SBE3.

Sending it back for 6 months is not an option he wants to do with hunting season here, Either he fixes olit or he trades it in on a wicked wing maxus

It's a well known problem.

I read that it is because of too much flex in the stock.

Well, they have some interesting pattern specs...
- I just assumed that everyone was patterning at 40 yards

What are the shotgun pattern specifications?

Our point-of-impact specifications are:

Up to 2"" left or right of point of aim
Up to 5"" above point of aim
Up to 2"" below point of aim

If you choose to pattern your shotgun from a stationary rest, we recommend that you follow the same specifications used by our factory. Benelli shotguns are tested with a patterning board 20 yards from the muzzle using the method illustrated below

Unfortunately the Benelli SBE III has been a big problem. The high POI issue has been ongoing and if you look at the US forums, you will see many frustrated gun owners are not happy. There are two schools of thought: 1. The barrel rings between mag tube and barrel are not aligned correctly from factory.
2. The 3D version of the flex stock is too soft.
The ring issue is more likely culprit. The BIG problem is that Benelli will not recall or publicly admit there is a problem on a gun that is pushing 3k up here.
In the US where the gun market is enormous, compared to Canada, this has caused the SBE III prices to drop and really hurt Benelli’s image with hardcore duck hunters.Any new gun could have issues- it happens; however, the SBE III was/is the flagship.Benelli really screwed up with SBE III and the 828U ain’t doing them any favors either.
The older SBE, SBII, Legacy, M2, Montefeltro,Vinci, don’t have the problem….rumor is that some of the new SBE 3” guns do have the POI issue still!
I have a Legacy, Original Black Eagle 3”, and had Vinci’s.They are perfect shooters, and they are very well made.No issues with POI.
Legacy and Black Eagle are superbly made.
Benelli’s POI acceptable patterning board is complete BS….for any gun, never mind a $2500 gun!

Common issue with these. I hunting buddy of mine had the same issues. He raised the pitch of the stock and put a taller front bead to raise the POI. It did work a bit better, but in the end he ended up selling it and going back to a SBE2.

Well....this video came out 2 weeks ago. Benelli rep told my cousin they get dozens of calls a day about this issue.

We changed the shin for 2 sizes bigger for more drop.

First shot at 20 and 40 yards gun is shooting about 60/40.

Dropped the POI at least 4 inches. He's happy now. More testing tomorrow night as we got a field to hunt Saturday morning.

Makes a major difference. Does it come with stock shims? The ones that fit between the stock and receiver. The ones in my wifes A400 Xplore are marked the pattern poi they should be. 65/35, 70/30 etc and they are bang on. We changed hers until we found the one that was hitting where she was looking. There was lots of missing going on prior to that. Now she hits a lot more of what she shoots at.

Watched the vid, at least they've identified an issue.
Also, patterning a shotgun. Some guys shoulder the gun, one eye closed, line up the beads & shoot. Best advice I got was not to look at the bead, just raise the gun, point at board & shoot.....really let's ya know if the gun fits
No SBE2 for sale here!

I bought a SBE 3 last year. Before taking it hunting I shot it at trap and POI was ok. I have used it for waterfowl for 6 days of hunting and it worked perfectly and POI was spot on.
