I'm in the market for a new AR15, preferably 7.5".

I have heard of various issues regarding reliability and accelerated wear. Is there any truth to this?

What are some solid rifles in this configuration and where could I find them?

Thanks:d

I think most issues are associated with gas systems shorter then carbine length. I have a 10.5 build with 100% reliability. Lots of people have 7.5's but probably more prone to be finicky.

So I'd be fine with a standard run of the mill lower? Standard buffer tube etc.?

Irunguns frequently has complete PSA (Palmetto State Arsenal) guns available - the buffer will be either H or H2, the receiver extension is the same for all carbine stocked AR's. The BCG will normally be a full auto version (heavier). The reason for the heavier buffer and BCG is that the gas pressure curve on a pistol length system is short but sharp, the extra weight helps smooth things out (a little). Beyond the buffer weight, a lower is a lower - so much so that KAC makes a PDW upper (that they won't sell us - I've asked) that goes on a standard AR lower, as well as the one on your sig line that fits the specialized PDW lower.

You will be fine with standard lowers, uppers, charge handles, FCG's and bolt carrier groups however buffer springs, the buffer, gas blocks and gas tubes are the items you need to do research on. These are critical pieces to finely tune for such a short barrel and an over pressured gas system.

I'll toss in another vote for a PWS lower--it's got their enhanced buffer tube with machined-in qd-swivel plus I think the newer ones come with ALG triggers--I know both of mine did.

What barrel length did you get?
