Most guys starting out in the reloading game have or get one of those balance beam scales. You know, the one with the numbers and graduations on the beam just being a sticker someone slaps on.
While they do work, they are not exact to be sure. Should the balance beam sticker be put on a little to the left or right, it will still measure but not accurately. I ended up buying a very nice PACT electronic scale, MADE IN USA not that Chi-com stuff.
I once stacked my friend's balance beam scale against my PACT electronic one measuring small amounts of fast burning pistol powder. The electronic scale always measured true, but the balance beam was off about 2/10th of a grain. So my electronic scale measured 2.8 grains of BullsEye, while the balance beam measured 3.0 grains.
Balance beams are great starters, you will eventually graduate to an electronic scale later on....
