Oh my these discussion just keep on rearing their ugly heads.

It matters not "why". It only matters that "they are".

It does not matter what the Americans, the Belgians, or any other country does with their firearms laws, it only matters what the RCMP do with ours.

The SCAR series is prohibited in Canada.

And unless the Belgians redesign for our small market and if the Americans allow the firearms to come into our country (remember Belgium ships the rifles direct to FNH USA and the American government basically banned all export to Canada once the first and only 50 rifles crossed our border) then maybe it would happen. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

But I figure it won't. And all the arguing about it is just a complete and utter waste of life.

I'm sure in 2 months another thread on the SCAR will pop up once again. Please use the search function.

sorry, i re-read it and i guess i was just imagining it, i don't know what was wrong with me that day

in regards to the above post, i dont see anyone argueing i just want to know why the rcmp made them prohib. It does matter why because i wanted to know.

Sorry for not searching i didn't know this was such a frequently posted subject, im new to cgn.

It has nothing to do with the u.s, fnh is belgium and could ship directly to here.

It just seems the scar would fit the bill of a non res rifle just like the ACR. Since the scar and ACR were competeting against eachother and are very similair fire-arms that were ment to fit the same niche.

I still don't understand why its prohib.. Couldnt the acr be converted to f.a just as easy? as their is a F.A ACR variant too? *HEAD EXPLODES*

If I understand it correctly (and forgive me if I get things wrong, I am a stone-cold newb), the civilian versions tend to be slightly redesigned, so that the components necessary to convert to select-fire wouldn't fit, and altering the rifle to accept the select-fire components be practically impossible. Externally, the civilian and military/law enforcement versions would be practically identical, but internals would be slightly different.


Bushmaster had factored this into their civilian ACR design, while FN didn't, thus why the SCAR is currently on the prohibited list while the ACR is available to us. I would assume that (again, as a newb), should FN (or if they decide to sub-contract it out to someone else) make the necessary alterations, the SCAR's prohibited status would be reconsidered. Depends on whether FN feels there's enough of a market for the SCAR amongst Canadians to warrant the redesign cost.
