SCAR Where Art Thou ?

How come the Tavor is non restricted? Is it possible that they made it like that because it's made in Israel and there is a trade agreement between Canada and Israel?

The Tavor is non restricted because it is a semi only rifle with a barrel length of over 18.5 inches.

The only reason a rifle ends up restricted is due to barrel length or being a variant of the AR.

If it is determined to be a converted auto or capable of being converted or a variant of an already prohibited firearm it will end up prohibited.

It appears the RCMP are looking at both the variant and converted auto angles when it comes to the SCAR.

You have more rights and freedoms in the US unless, say, you want to buy a Swiss Arms rifle, or a Norinco, or a Tavor.

I think almost all of us would trade all of the above for unrestricted use of the AR, AK and FN FAL, normal cap mags, CCW etc. Not to mention the other reasons already listed.

It's a joke when Canadians brag about having short shotguns and cheap Chinese firearms to people who can drive to the gravel pit to plink with a silenced AR and a couple of beta-c mags.

snip...
I think that in order for us to get our rifles, we either need FN to answer to the "safety sear" (hopefully some FA gurus here can help me/us understand this), or put pressure on the RCMP, with help from all our MPs, to recognize the fact that they have done their due diligence and that it is a SEMI-AUTO-ONLY rifle.

Release the damn thing.

The purpose of a "safety sear" is to insure that the hammer does not (cannot) fall onto the firing pin until the bolt is fully locked home. All semi-auto's have some variation of a "safety sear".

The SKS, FN-49, FN-FAL, Ruger 10/22, Winchester M.94, Marlin 336, AR-15, Rem 870 ect all have a mechanical interlock to ensure that the gun cannot (under normal conditions) fire when the bolt is "out of battery".

Definitely!!

I have said it before and will say it again:

Anyone who wishes to cancel their order may do so and we will issue them a full refund.

We have done so for a small number of customers already, but most have hung in, waiting for a successful outcome.

We never expected this to unfold the way it has or for the RCMP to drag this out the way they are. We have far more invested in this than any individuals out there and we are following what we believe to be the best course of action so that all of us can see a succesful outcome.

The last information we have (from FN and from within the RCMP SFSS) is that we are still on track for a "Restricted/Non-Restricted" classification and the moment that happens we will begin transfers for those who have paid purchases in place.

We do not know when this will happen but we remain optimistic.

I am already over the SCAR's
I don't care for the weight or the long recoil cycle, makes an AK feel REAL quick.

Yeah... Having fired them a couple of times I don't see what all the hoopla is over the SCAR.. 'Nice enough I suppose, but I don't see how it's all that superior to the AR15 at throwing boolits... 'Came up with a whole list of reasons why NOT to lust after one...

That said... SCAR's were the first things grabbed up off the prize table at the last 3-gun we went to...

Mark - realizing that a lot is at stake for you guys - would it be beneficial to try to acquire the information from FN to pass along to the RCMP? From the email threads and FoI documents etc., that I've read, it sounds like FN is not responding to the RCMP and/or the RCMP does not have the necessary information to finalize its categorization. One would think that this information would be available somewhere?
