I have been looking around for a new or used .410 for some time now and every time one shows up in this forum or others it is snap up quicker than you can blink. What is the big draw to them and particularly the combo gun such as a .22/.410 over/under. huh!!!

I don't think there are as many .410's as 12 ga. to start with. The .410 is attractive because of low recoil and usefulness where a lighter charge is all that is necessary. On the other hand, guys like me buy them for the "romance". A good old Cooey .410 has appeal. I have a neat little Mossberg .410 bolt. I have two old SMLE's in .410, one 3" and one for whatever length the .303 British cartridge is. I also have a single shot of some kind, not sure of the brand. Plus they are neat little shells. All kinds of good solid reasons - romance, neat, attractive, and more!!

A lot of folks started out with a .410 back when it was Ok to wander the outskirts of your hometown shooting Rabbits and such - I started out with an Iver Johnson .410 Single with a full matted rib on the barrel - sold it in my late teens and always regretted it -
I crossed paths with it again many, many years later and I was lucky enough to buy it back - nothing for sale but I just had to tell my story - .410's are usually keepers .........

My first shotgun was a Mossberg pump .410.
Numerous single Cooeys, Winchester and such have passed by.
I hold dear to my heart an old Savage 311H dated around mid fifties.
Seems all that see her wish to take her home, the little tramp.......:D

You think .410's go fast--try finding a 28 gauge. You gotta be quick to decide if either a .410 or 28 comes up for sale. Unless they are complete junk.

I find that all the local stores don't stock them the dealers have them in 1 or 2 in stock and they sit around for ever it doesn't seem super popular or at least stores just forget to order them....

I like the Bortto Hiker 410 12 inch barrel non restricted you almost don't even notice it in your hand. Put a winchester pdx1 410 round in it and it packs a good punch would knock most things over in the bush. I wouldn't want to bet on 1 round stopping say a bear but it could do it if your lucky hope I never have to find out. Thats what I carry as a bush gun as I find the 12 ga to heavy and bulky I wanted smaller and light weight or i would leave it at home.

Alot of guns don't last long in stores they sell simple as that doesn't matter what it is they sell and fast...

I love 410's . I only shoot skeet and shoot every gauge including 16ga. I get the biggest kick out of shooting my 410's . I have a BPS and stevens 311 SXS that will be in the box with me when I take the dirt nap.Theres something about smoking a target on station one with a 410...feels great

Ha to me even chipping a target on the skeet field with the 410 I feel great. I call it my humbler. When I think I am the bomb and smoking them I switch to the 410 just to realise how piss poor a shot I am. I use mostly a wingmaster or 1100..

The first shotgun my dad gave me when I was 12 years old was a brand new Savage .410 pump with a vent rib. Still have the gun. I learned to shoot with it and ,not to brag, I could hit grouse, ducks, claybirds, whatever with it. Now 44 years ater, lets just say my percentage has dropped.

I got bit by the .410 bug two summers ago. Definitely humbling to shoot skeet with. Started with an old 11-48 with a cutts and late this summer moved to a tubed Remington 3200. Shoot it like a 12 and its amazing how they break! Only one thing puzzles me. When shooting there are so few pellets, but if the progressive reloader spills a charge of shot there are a million pellets everywhere! Where'd those extras come from!

Do you have one of mama's high wall cookie sheets mounted on the loader station under your machine. Well worth the slap in the head she will give when she see it. LOL
