Scent-Lok suits do they really work or are they a gimmick?

I'm heading out to Wholesale Sports tomorrow afternoon. Been busted too many times Bow hunting by some very decent W/T bucks.

Anyone care to share there experiences? I'm about to drop $450 bucks that could be spent on ammo and accessories.....lol

I spend at least 20 hours a week bowhunting so I would get a lot of use out of it.....

thanks

I bought a set and have been using it this year, but I don't think it is a magic bullet. If the deer is down-wind you're busted.........

I like to think it gives me a percentage, and if I add enough percentages I get an advantage. I did have two deer come in to me on opening day and got both of them, in kind of swirly wind conditions, so maybe the suit did help...

Not a ringing endorsement, but I spent some of my gun money on them.....

The most successful bowhunter I know personally, swears by it. That's good enough for me. However, I only own a scent lok balaclava, no other items. I have had deer right under my stand with no scent lok of course...but I have no idea how many deer I never saw because they winded me??

I agree with Doug. I think it will cut down on your scent, but not eliminate it. I don't wear mine all of the time, but I have had deer walk by me that seemed totally 'unaware' of me. Make sure you spray down all of your equipment as well with a scent eliminator. That extra percentage might just give you that extra one or two seconds you need...

Good luck.

I don't even were camo 99% of the time but a couple guys I know have the sent lock, it is a scam as far as I am concerned. Putting a little bit of carbon in the fabric of a coat and pair of pants won't keep a deer from smelling you.
People stink, unless you where sitting in a pile of carbon with two eye holes only, the deer will smell you.

I love the guys who spend big money on scent-lock boots/gear/jackets only to put it on at home before they go hunting, and on the way out to the field stop to fuel-up their truck...

If you can get a suit that completely encloses your body, and is perfectly sealed, and you breathe with a scuba tank,it could prevent a deer from smelling you at all.If you only cover part of your body and your breath is not contained, they can still smell you.

20 hrs a week would justify it for me, I wear scent-loc but only because I got a great deal from Houligan from this site. It comes down to exactly what Doug talks about. The more advantages you gain over your prey, the more chances you will have to let fly the arrows. I was told years ago that you have until 2 of the 3 senses of an animal are known. Ie. It can see you from a distance, but if it can't hear you and can't smell you, you are deemed non threatening, soon as it makes your smell or sound, you will see white flags running away from you. The same would work if it smelled and heard you or if it saw and heard you.

I have never had to much of a problem getting close to animals when I use the wind to my advantage.I sometimes sneak up on deer just to see how close I can get with me comming to them.boy its a blast when you get right in close.good practice in the off season.I sure notice a huge differance when the wind is to my face

scent lock

Well in the foothills the wind changes directions all the time and it's impossible to always play the wind. I use a carbon suit and I see a lot more deer with it than without it. It's not magic and you still have to do all the othere scent elimination things. I treat scent like it's a poisonous substance that I don't want to cross contaminate onto other things. I never touch scent free objects with bare hands, I store these objects outside in the sunlight to try and keep it scent free. I walk to my hunting area then spray down and only then I put the suit on, I don't get sweated up on the walk etc. If I'm out camping I don't worry about scent free because it's impossible to maintain. I also see a lot moree animals on day trips when I'm scent free than when I'm camping-maybe that's a hint to me if it works or not. I've got a cheap army surplus carbon suit that I got for 15 bucks on e-bay, it aint fancy but it does work.
