Here's an interesting pic:

tunneling_fov.jpg

Left is S&B @ 5x, right is Premier @5x

Notice the difference in the FOV and the amount of tunnelling.

They have fixed this in the newer models (3-20x50, 3-27x56).

I was very surprised to see the tunneling on the SB at the low power setting when I looked through one at the range. For a scope at that priced level, you would thing that...wouldn't bother me at all but for some is a serious consideration.

Would be great to see an unbiased technical side by each comparisonof March, SB and new NF with ED glass.

Peter

Different scopes for different end uses.

Add in the new SIII's for S&G's.

If the only goal is SEEING a target regardless of the air, then S&B has been the best for my eyes. At moderate mag, these are amazing. Would love to compare to a Theta/Premier but maybe in the future.

If the goal is to use the optic to help you hit that target, I wouldn't use a S&B, March or NF. BUT that might change now that I have added a KOWA spotter to my ensemble.

Use, tastes, budget, rules, goals.... it all affects what is "best".

So what would you be comparing.... way too easy to get into an apples and orange debate.

Not following this one...

I don't know if I would trust a March for real field use, but March seems to have been taking its fair share of F-Class wins and records as of late. I don't think people are having any trouble hitting the target with them. In tactical/practical UKD matches, S&B is still the most common scope in the big leagues.

I'm guessing you're talking about reading mirage since reading the swirl/trace doesn't seem to be popular with F'ers... In either case, I'm still not following. You can do either with any decent optic of sufficient power.

For my needs, some glass actually work too well and "see" through mirage.

S&B is one such product. Wonderful glass and still my fave but you loose so much info about the air.

Now that I have added a KOWA, I may take at look at other brands but I still really enjoy the info my Sightrons give me as my trigger breaks.

Different games, different needs, different strategies.

PS ivo, nice scope

The S&B are proven optics, now that my eyesight permit's it, i am in the process of having most of my rifles mounted with one, no need for the PM serie on all but the Flashdot of the Zenith is great even in FFP the dot is very good for fast aquisition, got a 3X12X50 Zenith A4 FD mounted on my DD MK18, the little AR is whorty of that good optic... First off, I don't understand the choice of an M14/M1a for a long range precision rig, but that's a whole 'nother topic...

S&B is good, though they've had some QC issues as of late. Apparently there customer service is very good, so you will be taken care of if you do happen to run into any issues with your scope.

Personally, if I was spending that much money I would also look at Steiner, Khales, and the new Nightforce line (such as the BEAST). I was in the market for a high end optic twice in the past two years, and I decided to go with the Steiner 5-25x56 with MSR reticle, and the Khales 6-24x56 also with MSR reticle. They both seem to rival S&B in quality, at a much better price.

If I was to buy another high end optic today, I would seriously consider the NF BEAST. That scope has been getting rave reviews, I wish it was available for purchase last year.

Good luck on your scope hunt!

And I seriously hope putting that giant S&B on that DD MK18 is a joke...

It shoot so good, i have decided to reload for it, since i still have a couples K's of Lapua Scenars 77 gr, the scope will help for load developpement, after that, i will resume with my Hilux CMR but it could stay there to, i dont have no rifle to put it on... JP.
