Schmidt-Rubin 1889 Sporter for $100! Now what?

Thanks all for the help and info!

Yes, that sight is worth about $100. Which was the price for the whole thing! A steal for sure. And the bluing on it is like a rifle from the '60s that's been kept in really good shape...I'm thinking someone spent a LOT of money and effort on this. With that stock and the LOOONG barrel...it looks like something rarefied that came from a European custom gun shop. And honestly, for such a gun handloads are well worth it.

I will hit up my buddy who loads his own after I buy some supplies and we will try some recipes. Meanwhile, she's just going to hang here and look good! I am particular to sporters (picked up a bubba'd LE #4 Mk II as well...not pretty, but good shooter. Parkerizing and laminate Monte Carlo stock on the way), the collector value doesn't really matter to me...so there are definitely deals to be had for decent guns for little money.

I will post updates as they develop!

With a decent load and that extreme sighting radius, be prepared for an awful shock when you test this old girl out.

She just might be your permanent "go-to" rifle.
