School me in 1911 recoil springs?

Can you run them with a stock 1 pc. full length guide rod, or do you need the quarter inch guide rod to allow the use of a flat wire recoil spring on a full length gun. I'm pretty sure most require a .250 guide rod.

Yeah, sorry i forgot to mention that they don't work with regular diameter FLG. The Wilson flat wire kit comes with it's own guide rod.

Question for the gurus - I shoot ammo designed to hit about 175 power factor (IPSC classic division). What I don't know is - is this considered light, regular, heavy or plus P???

The original 45 ACP cartridge fired a 200 gr. bullet at 900 fps (180PF), but was altered to a 230 gr. projectile at 850 fps (195PF).

Classic - being classic - the 170 PF floor would be considered "light" relative to the original loads.

The factory Federal American Eagle 45acp 230gr projectile is rated at 890fps, which is 204pf.
Where can you buy factory 230gr at 850fps? Who makes it? better yet, who sells it in Canada?
I now use the Norinco 230gr which is about the same velocity as the American Eagle, (not tested).

Those are the original specs for a cartridge that is 100+ years old.

I have no idea where to buy factory ammo that replicates the original... I reload and all of my .45 is right around the original spec. (Maybe a bit less :) )
