Just wondering what the current options are for 10 rounders.

A quick only search turns up some very short ASC 10rd and a couple of polymer options. Is that it? It doesn't even look like ATRS offers their mags anymore.

I remember at one point you could get C Products or ASC 10/20 and/or 10/30 mags that were limited by lancing the sides. Are they a thing of the past?

Reason I ask as I was looking for mags that replicate the size of full length ones without the need for adapters that cost me as much as the mag itself. Ability to attach Magpul Ranger plates would be one benefit of lanced mags and something that I'm looking for.

Generally LAR mags are short. There have been a few threads recently on the subject; they all end with people wishing there were 10/30 mags available, IIRC.

There are AA 5/10 Beowulf mags available currently that are the same length as 30 round 5.56 mags, and they'll hold 15. Still technically legal for now, but who knows for how long. Do with that what you will.

LAR-15s can use the Magpul USGI Ranger or L-plates. Gives them a bit more weight, easier to remove and they don't get damaged when they land on hard surfaces. You can also run a pair with an aluminum coupler that gives you 20 rounds and a rough approximation of a 30-rounder.

I wouldn't touch the Beowulf magazines right now with a 100-foot pole. The RCMP has deemed any with a capacity of greater than 5x 5.56mm rounds to be prohibited and one guy has already been charged in Ontario. Since the Beowulf is a modified AR15 magazine it is highly unlikely you would prevail in court.

I've never seen a legal C Products or ASC 10/20 or 10/30 magazine.

Rock River Arms LAR-15 10 rounders are what I stick to... most others I've seen on the market APPEAR TO ME (big caveat, not legal advice just my opinion), to be magazines originally designed for the AR-15 rifle, re-stamped for the Canadian market and sold as LAR 15 mags here. A quick check of C-products Defence and the new MFT mags websites I see popping up now show to me that they are originally designed as AR mags. Just something to ponder.

Rock River Arms LAR-15 with Magwedge is what im slowly moving towards. It's the only way to carry 120 rounds on my belt :) It's almost the length of a 30.

I won't be buying anymore beowulf either thanks to the RCMP making up laws as they go :-(

It's been years but IIRC Arms East had them at one point.

Mag wedge is a great idea but I'm looking for something that replicates the look and feel I what I use at work. That limits me to 10/30 or to use something like the GS design extension. The extensions look promising but it practically double the cost of the mag.

FWIW I recall a statement or something similar from the RCMP stating that only the short 10 round LAR pistol magazines are legal.

You realize the RCMP's opinion is NOT the law??

I run coupled ASCs for a total of 120 rounds. I use the angled couplers, they give a more "natural" full size magazine shape. They have been functionning flawlessly since I bought them from Questar in 2014.

That wouldn't surprise me in the least and most likely what happened. IIRC that's exactly what happened with the 9mm LAR 15 10/32 mags.

As for Beowulf, I'd prefer not to discuss them. Yes their opinion isn't law and while I'd love to fight them on principle I'm not going to risk my family's welfare for it.

At this point I'm thinking I'd prefer the C Products over the ASC just because of the shape. Looks like USGI 20rd style and GS has extensions that mimic that, the ASC ones are curved.

I believe both companies are using stainless. Aside from potentially only fitting 9 rds has there been any other issues? Are they reliable? I'd be looking for at least six, plus a spare or two.

The LAR mags seem to be reliable for most people but once in a while someone has issues and they don't feed well, I would buy a couple and see if they work well in your rifles then go back and buy more of the same brand and batch if possible before buying 10 of them. Worst case scenario you have to sell them on the EE.

I would stay away from Beowulf for now as well, I have a few and they sit in the gun room. The RCMP opinion may not be law but I have no interest in spending a year's salary fighting to keep myself out of jail and risking having them confiscate all my firearms and take away my license. A lot of guys will talk tough on here but they'll be crying like a little girl with a skinned knee when they get caught.
I've always said the Beowulf mags were taking advantage of a loophole that would some day be closed and thanks to the guys that go out on crown land doing mag dumps into old TV's and appliances then leaving their garbage behind there must have been enough complaints from non gun people in the area for the RCMP to crack down on them.

You're right, their opinion is not the law but I guarantee they are working on it right now to make it the law and how much time and money are you willing to waste fighting the charges of possession of a prohibited device to prove your point and then have to fight to have all your firearms returned to you? They have issued a notification which means they are in the process of making it law and since ignorance is no excuse for the law and it is your responsibility to ensure you're following the law you can't just say you didn't know if you get stopped.
I have over $30000 worth of firearms plus over $10000 worth of ammunition and reloading supplies, plus a career that won't last long if I have weapons charges and need time off to sit in jail or even go to court, to me it's just not worth losing everything just to prove a point.
Maybe you're only 19 years old, live with your parents, own nothing and have nothing to lose other than a few hundred dollars worth of guns but most adults have a lot to lose and leaving your family to fend for themselves while you sit in jail over something stupid and totally avoidable seems pretty irresponsible.

^this x2

I was told more than once in my career to carefuly choose my fight(s). Well beowulf magazines wont be my battle and I'm not sorry about it. I have several thousands invested in this hobby (guns, ammo, gear, training), 3 sons to look after and a wife with a fragile health... I'll stick to coupled LAR15 and pinned pmags when having fun.

Kidd X feel free to test the RCMP's opinion and tell us how much it cost for a couple extra 50¢ rounds

Here's where you missed the message. IT ISN'T ILLEGAL TO OWN OR USE THE MAGS IN QUESTION. Their opinion and what is written to law are not the same thing.

Yes, while their opinion is not the law, In this case it is their conclusion that the Beowolf mags are not not manufactured as 50 cal Beowolf mags, but rather a 5.56 mags labeled to fit 50 cal Beowolf rounds, all it take is one look from the top and you can see the half contour of a 5.56 bullet and casing in the plastic follower for stacking the skinnier round, some of the older follower even had 5.56 stamped into the follower!

RCMP overlooked the Beowolf mags in the begining, because it was just a handful for people, but once Youtube videos start popping up telling everybody how wonderful these mags are and companies started to make them in quantities, than news reporters start writing new articles about it, It pretty much forced the RCMP do something.

It's not wrong ammo... My Beowulf mag is identical to a standard mag, with the exception of the front of the follower being shaved down a little. It's still a .223 follower in there. Mine only holds 14rds... But that's just because the pin isn't low enough. I've got more on the way that should hold an extra round.
