School me on 22lr long distance

UPDATE

Ok so got the range today and here's the Friday 13th experience.

After using a rangefinder its a 330y range
Placed a large cardboard target on one lane
Two large targets on the next lane and one over the steel plate.
Used SK auto bench ammo loaded up 5 magazines.
Took all the shots on my new cabelas shooting pad which is way better than my Eberlestock version and on sale for $50 highly recommend this mat.
Went prone for all the shots and used my Magpul bipod on full extension and started at 100ft on cardboard firing 5 shots then worked back till about 450ft then started on the two targets so far so good.
Took a few shots at the plate for fun and watched the shrapnel rip apart the target so having a visual is an interesting addition.
Carried on and got out to 750ft which was now dropping 24 inches dialed in all I could and ran out of adjustment so the next shots I held over about 6 inches which seemed to work and decided to just go straight to the 1000ft then things went pear shaped.
Fired one more shot at 750 and no bang so attempted to clear the round but no extraction, left the rifle pointed downrange in case of a hangfire but nothing so removed the magazine and pulled the bolt back again and fired (sitting up and away from the receiver)
Gun fired and the round went downrange.
Put the magazine back and loaded another round but again no bang and another stuck round again removed the magazine pulled back the bolt sat up and fired this time a small explosion and shrapnel but luckily my face wasn't near enough for any damage.
This time a hollow case in the breech but no idea if a bullet was stuck or what had happened?
Ran a rod down the barrel and no bullet in the barrel and the casing popped out pretty easily.
No apparent damage to the gun and I've since cleaned it and other than lots of powder in the receiver everything looks ok.
So what happened did I get a dud round on the first round leaving the bullet in the barrel and then reloaded and fired clearing the barrel or could the primer have been hot on those two rounds causing over pressure?
I haven't experienced this issue before so what should I have done, I'm thinking running a bore snake down to check for a blockage?
As far as the 1000ft I've left the scope at 750 and I'll just carry on from there again.
I'm pleased with the results of the day now I need to learn the reverse and how to set up the ballistic calculator for cold shots into distance.

Anytime you might have gotten a squib is time to check if the barrel is clear. A cleaning rod will do that, and may have enough heft to pop a squib back out. A piece of plastic weed-whipper string is an easy thing to carry that can at least check your barrel (good at the start of a session too).

A .22LR is a good thing to learn this on, as a big centrefire rifle can explode in your face if the barrel is blocked. There was a piece of a rifle hanging on the wall at Epps with a note that the owner hadn't survived.

Grab some Burris Signature rings with the inserts. Can go 0, 5, 10,15 or 20 MOA. That will help you get some adjustment back, so you won't have to hold off.

How do the inserts work does the pack contain a selection of inserts? They were on sale hopefully still are.

If you can find the complete pack, they have multiple inserts in +/- 5, 10, and 20 thou. By using, for example, a plus 10 on the bottome rear, and a minus 10 on the top rear, and the revers in the front, you have achieved the same change as mounting a 20 moa rail, basically. I find them quite useful, have them on at least a dozen rifles. Just went through this exercise mounting a Burris 6-24 scope on one of my anschutz 22's. - dan

They're half moon inserts that has a thick + and thin side - allowing depending on how much more adjustment you need, lift the rear of the scope.

The insert kit that separate comes with pair of 5, 10 and 20 + or - inserts. 0-30 moa of correction.

I run them on my Anschutz and Tasco 32x scope because the weird design of the scope I'm pretty sure was designed for 20 yard shooting, as I dont have enough adjustment for 50 yards, let alone 100.
