School me on a new production Winchester M70

I bought a French Walnut Super Grade in 30-06 recently. Fantastic rifle all around. The only pre-64 Model 70's that come even close are the pre war Super Grades, but even those aren't quite as smooth.

a real beauty.

Sounds like a good package, very interested to hear how you like that scope.

No range trip yet, but in the next few days I will get out and test the rifle. I really like this scope, I have three of them, one on my CVA muzzle loader and one on my Marlin GG 1895. Sadly it is now discontinued so can't get anymore.

Well I took the plunge and ordered one from Ellwood Epps, sort of an early Christmas present to myself. Got the walnut/blued Featherweight in 308, gotta say I am pleased with it upon initial inspection, it cycles my dummy rounds flawlessly, ejects them with gusto, the wood, while plain is straight grained and pleasing to the eye, trigger seems more than adequate for a hunting rifle and the blueing is very good. I got a set of Winchester branded Talley 1" low with it, mounted up my Razor 1.5-8, and will bore sight and maybe make a range trip tomorrow depending on the weather. I will report back with my results, I have a variety of factory and handloads I could try so i am rather excited about this one!

Let’s get a picture of this new .308. I’m stoked to see it. I’m super surprised that you could find one at Epps…… or anywhere for that matter.

Cheers, Barney

Too cool to live

Euro reticle, low end magnification and “big” objective with the 1 inch tube seems to be the kiss of death in the NA market.

There is a made in China scope so close it might be a clone available on EuroOptic.
