School me on AR10 type rifles

...upgraded to this sr-25acc, installed a raptor charging handle and a magpul miad grip and i am good to go..... well worth spending a little extra considering all the high end premium parts that come with it, buy once.... cry once.

The KAC is a very nice rifle but it should be for the price. On 16" it was the way to go. By tbe way the LMT mws is 90 percent or so the same rifle. The G2 16" recon with heavier barrel comes in at 8 pounds once you swap out the handguard to the MI. Not as nice build or extras and no ambi. But the heart of it is a better design and at 2k vs 6k.

as i said, its not my first go around and frankly i was tired of "making do"..... sold some safe queens and dropped the hammer on a gun that had just about ALL of the features i wanted right off the shelf, the g2 would have been my second choice.

p.s,
we miss you at the range ;)

Again....thanks for all the great opinions.

So the G2 allows me to use a Raptor CH (Can't imagine any other kind to use personally), most Magpul accessories (grip, stock, etc..) and PMags?

What's proprietary on it, in that case?

G2 uses a proprietary charger, but you can change the clasp to whatever you want. PRI builds a gas buster charging handle for it though. Pretty much every part of it is proprietary to be honest. The claim that they can take any AR-15 hand guard is deceptive, and I actually talked to DPMS about that, and they only tried a couple. Midwest industries builds nice hand guards for the G2, and Wolverine has one in order for me.

Building your own .308 is a pain as oppose to .223.
Alberta Tactical is a good place to check out. In general you'll spend a pretty good amount $$$
MegaArms has an FRT# for their .308 due to Questar that sells parts. I imported an already complete firearm made by Mega for a company called Ferfrans. Perhaps get iRunGuns to bring one (Megaarms) in for you.
Here's a little ####:

Those were good times at that range! I think back fondly on those range days. Great range, and great people.

I do have a KAC SR25 ECR 20" as well as a LMT MWS with 16" CL and 20" SS barrels. So yes I do understand.

The GII needs some work. The heart of it is fantastic. Pretty much anything on it that should have been marketed as Remington military division is great. The BCG, upper, lower, trigger, barrel and AAC flashider. The magpul moe furniture, ie pistol grip, stock and flip up sights are ok. The commercial buffer tube and handguard are crap. I'm guessing those were the DPMS contributions. As for the charging handle. Yup, Raptor won't work. It's in between AR15 and AR10 in length. I put a large Badger tactical latch on mine. Problem solved for me. I'm not sure if the Norgon ambi mag release will work or not as I haven't worried about it. I would hope it will work. I did change out my buffer tube for a PWS enhanced. It looked great. But I had to change back to the stock one as something didn't work right. I couldn't lock back, either manually or with an empty mag. Changed back and problem solved. It works right again. Pmag gen3 mags lock open with mine. but i haven't tried them with actual rounds yet. I added a single point QR adapter at the back to give it the functionality I wanted with the PWS buffer tube. so far it's worked out great. I have a FAB GL-shock stock on it which can work with either milspec or commercial buffer tubes. You just have to take off the cheek riser so it doesn't interfere with the charging latch if your scope is close to the bore. Just waiting for the MI handguard and it should be all ready to go. I have no regrets going this route for a 16" Reece style AR308 rifle. Even over the KAC SR25. The LMT will also likely never see the 16" barrel as the GII is lighter and much handier. So the KAC and LMT in my case along with Armalite SASS are all relegated to 20" barrels. The GII has taken over the 16" realm. That being said, the purchases of a higher end AR308 rifle is never a mistake. They are very nicely made and there is a very real pride of ownership. Plus the cheaper stuff like the GII can always be bought later.

Anyways just my thoughts on these.

I ordered a MI handguard for the GII with Wolverine about a year ago. Somehow the order got lost. I have another one on order as well. I'll be calling up to see how long. It's been a few months now.
