I'm a target shooter and a 1911 guy looking to finally get a CZ-75

There seem to be several different trigger mechanisms in use by CZ

What I want is a target pistol with a very good single action trigger. I don't care about the double action, as I will never use it.

I also strongly dislike the look and heft of the SP-01 series and also prefer a slimmer cross section like the 1911

It seems my choices are limited to the CZ-85 Combat or the 75 Shadowline (provided that adjustable sights are available).

Are there any other models with very good SA triggers out of the box and the classic CZ-75 frame profile?

If not, then is the Shadowline worth the extra coin over the 85?

I think you're wanting to go with the Shadowline as they don't have the firing pin block. I have an older Pre-B 75 with a CGW race hammer and adjustable sear and the trigger is sweet. I saw a Shadowline on the EE and was going to pull the trigger on it as I don't like the SP-01 because of the rail but was short on funds.

Combat's cheaper and has adj. sights. Good SA trigger. No firing pin block.

The shadowline doesn't have adj. sights on it but it does have a slim feel reminiscent of a 1911. The SA trigger is even better (no "camming" action)

The slim aluminum grips are widely available, whereas shadowlines themselves are harder to come by.

I like my 85 combat, your statements intrigues me.

A double stack that feels "reminiscent of a 1911"? Really?

"no "camming" action" What is that?

Is a Shadowline really that different than any other CZ?

My gut tells me shadow line. My wallet tells me 85...

What's the story with this Omega trigger? About all I read is how it's "simpler" than the 75B. Not much on how it compares.

I can't jump on it for awhile, so there is time to decide.

If single action only is your preference, CZ Custom sells a trigger that can be adjusted for take-up and overtravel.

I have a 85 Combat and a 75 Shadowline (and am also mainly a 1911 shooter)

The pistol you want is a 85 Combat with a CZ comp hammer that Dlask sells for $79. Buy whatever grips suit you, for target shooting where the fairly long DA reach isn't an issue, the rubber factory grips are excellent.

The shadowline has some advantages for idpa or ipsc like a beveled magwell and an upswept beavertail but other than that you are paying $300 for a hammer, aluminum grips, and a fiber optic front / novak style rear.

Depends on what games you wanna play with it, e.g. rules you need to follow like IDPA, IPSC or so; but I'd suggest taking a look at 75B SA if you can remove FPB.
I built one for myself with comp hammer, new sights, new SAO trigger and internal work, it was a VERY nice and VERY accurate gun! It's sold now.

Camming is effect observed on SA guns or DA/SA guns in SA mode where hammer moves back a bit before it falls due to sear and hammer hooks geometry.

I got to shoot CeeZer's 75 SA and it's even nicer than he is suggesting.

And I'm a little surprised that you sold it.

The Omega is supposed to be a simplified sort of action to make the guns a trifle cheaper to produce. Out of the box the Omega action sucks badly. But with some attention or simply LOTS of shooting it smoothens up nicely. But last I found when I searched the web there's still a lot more information on tuning the classic style action. Or you could make a project of it and duplicate CeeZer's single action gun.

And /if you did decide to use it in action shooting competitions you simply have to shoot in the classes that don't require a DA first shot. No biggie really. It IS just all for fun after all, right?

Sold it only due to being between jobs at the time :( it also still had FPB in place, you'd not wanna give it back without one (FPB), I tried it without and it was unbelievable!!!

As stated: camming is when the hammer rises a little bit more before dropping when the trigger is pulled. The hammer on the shadowline does not do this at all. When pulled, it just drops.

And the slim aluminum grip that come on the shadowline (and are available at many vendors) do not have the palm swell that classic CZ-75s are known for. They are a lot slimmer and feel more like a flat panel slab side (1911).

Also, both pistols come with the 85's over travel adjustalble nickel plated trigger.

Source: I also own both a shadowline and a cz-85 combat.

The replacement hammer improves the trigger then?

Next step I suppose is a trip to YouTube to see what these guns are like to work on.

85 is about 800-900 new and the shadowline is about 1000-1200 new. But harder to come by.

Fun fact: shadowline is a canadian thing, USA doesn't even get them. Not even in CZ's USA catalog.

Hammer change is very easy. I would recommend the app "3D gun disassembly"

Yes the comp hammer will take all the "camming" out of your trigger pull.

What are the 85's going for these days? You might be surprised at what price you can find a new Shadowline for if you shop around.

I've found new 85s for as low as $770 or thereabouts

Not too many shadowlines around right now that I can see. Wolverine has the best price I've found, but I take another 8% hit for taxes. Best case so far would be to wait for sfrc to have one of their 10% off sales

It's nothing I'm in a hurry to jump on. One might pop up on the exchange in the meantime. There's an 85 listed now but I'm not ready to buy yet.
