Hello, so I think I got a great deal on my very first sight, I've always used flip ups and irons, basically what ever comes on the gun from factory, so I got a recent purchase of a JR carbine 9mm with an EoTech 512 sight. (No it's not a fake) other than the minimal research I've done I was wondering what kind of performance I can expect out of this, also I've read you don't need to close one eye when aiming, just keep both eyes open and have at er. I'm new to sights, any info is great thx :)
 
Dont look through the eotech, like any red dot, you line up the reticle with your eye, and you actually look at your target using the off eye. Your brain will process the dot through and make it seem like the dot is floating with the off eye. Its an effect you are already familiar with, but its even sweeter when the reticle is still dead on with the off eye.

That is probably the worst explanation I've ever heard on 'how to use' an EOTech. :) haha

Look at target - put dot on target - squeeze trigger. It's just that easy. Both eyes open, one eye closed, doesn't matter. Whatever feels right. Just make sure the only eye open isn't your "off eye" ;)

In all seriousness, you will either love or hate EOTechs. They have their benefits in some situations over an Aimpoint, but I prefer the single dot Eotechs if you can find one. I find the ring too busy for my needs at times, especially when trying to shoot longer range.
 
Didn't have my coffee yet at that time. However, it still the best way to use it. You can use it like a scope and do just fine too.

Your explanation sucked.

Canucklehead has it right. Both eyes open, focus on the target, shoot. I would strongly suggest you read the literature that should have come with the sight. If its missing then hit the internet and read up about your optic, there's plenty of good information and lots to learn.
