School me on SKS’s

When you could buy them for $150, they were probably neat and relatively fun but when you see them for $700 it’s mind blowing. Great for what they are I guess

Are all Chinese SKS’s Norinco ? I’m a bit confused on this
Yes, but what the hell is Norinco is the operative question. It's not what most think as one has to delve into Chinese Communist business structures to understand just what's going on there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norinco

My understanding is that "Norinco" is not only the ordinance godhead for export, but also the entity that coordinates supply to the People's Liberation Army. While certainly a contractor, also a government division. F ucking sweethearts to be sure..." Some of Norinco's international customers include Iran, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where it negotiated arms-for-minerals deals, as well as Venezuela.[10][11]"

In a nutshell, Norinco= People's Republic of China.

Those are all milled receivers, you would pay a fortune today if new ones would be manufactured.

Yeah but why would anyone?

Pretty much. Still relatively cheap ammo. Fun to shoot realistic enough sized targets with. A very robust weapon. But wow it sucks to pay current prices lol

I've shot some of 'Red box' and White box' and 'Silver box' Norinco, as well as S&B, Chinese, Romanian, Czeck, Yugo and Russian. They all shoot 'about the same' altho your new FT may find a 'better flavour' in one. As I said waaay earlier, I'd watch GP and EE for someone divesting of 'extra/excess ammo'. Right now sponsors are around 0.70c / round Plus tax and shipping, which you can save with $250+ purchases with 'some' vendors. And BP/Cab may put more 'holiday sales' soon. Just buy a few Nor-red-boxes to get started and watch for a sale.
Here's an older thread about ammo accuracy, but he used a custom barrel.

Thank You Buck !

I bought a Chinese one from CT and made it all tacticool, now it sits in my safe because it's too much of a hassle to take apart and clean. As everyone else already said, they're great to shoot when ammo was cheap. They get the job done.

I absolutely love the SKS. It's reliability is near unmatched, accurate enough to hunt deer and is ready to go out of the box. Yeah its not a 21 century platform but it can do whatever you ask it to do. It's all milled and pretty sturdy, hell I saw SKS outperform T81 SR accuracy wise. I had multiple Russian SKS but I come to the conclusion the Chinese are better produced and more stream lined with the bayonet. Decent after market for them as well just wished someone would come out with an actual AK style release that is worth a damn in Canada. Id say buy one it has become the Canadian rifle of resistance in my opinion..

What AK style release are you talking about? Magazine? There are magazines available with build in mag release. Pro mag. Or are you talking about safety, I am kinda confused.

Mine got one the first week of this month, not me shooting though. A bud was stuck with no rifle so I lent him my early Chinese blade bayo model and some 123gr TSX handloads. Wouldn't be my first choice but he prefers irons for some reason lol.

One and done from a stand about 60 meters away. I wouldn't push it past 100, but it can certainly handle that.

Yes magazines. A couple years ago a company in the USA called Texas firearms was making ak style mag release for tapco mags. I bought one and regret not buying another. It makes mag change easier than a T81, really. Only down side is the duckbill style mag but I don't mind that at all honestly. The company closed so they are not producing anymore mag release unfortunately. But it would be a pretty easy thing to manufacture i believe, might be wrong but still surprised nobody worked on anything like that already. There is the SBI mag release but it's absolute garbage in my opinion anyways. Not a big fan of the mags with a built in mag release, way overpriced.
