School me on SKS magazine options

SBI does not sell to the public anymore and the duckbill delete or other stuff like the mag release have not been available for a while.

That's a shame. I guess I'm late to the game. Is HiCal the only option then? Not a lot of choice for a semi 7.62 russian. Raven or wk180 are $2k+ and are unreliable apparently. Type 81 is about the same cost wise and is not very accurate..

I've got an old sks D Carbine model , in parts on my bench..been there for years...someone didn't like it..rusted to crap! , would have had the thumbhole stock( if anyone know where I can get one) it would be good for display....you could maybe rebarrel it...but where the clip go into the receiver...is pretty rust up....I've had a couple of SKS D over the years...the Norinco ( wrong spelling?)model and the chinese military, model...I think your better off to buy a Russian one, and have it converted over to AK mags..if thats what you want...
There use to be a company that made conversion kits to run AR15 10 shot pistol mags..but I don't know if that loop hole has been closed...if it still legal? If so, you had 10 rounds on hand..the only true way to get more then 5 rounds legally out a rifle..and it may not be legal now..it's been years... the Russian built rifle..I think we're better built..steel and finish...but I'm only going by the ones I've owned.
Cheers

Wk isn't anywhere near $2k...
Last I checked TI still had t81 SRs for $999... (edit: looks like they finally took the sale down, kinda figured it would last until they sold out...)

Did the same thing with the lmg. Said they would be on sale till they got down to a certain number in stock and then the price would go back up. One of the other stores on the forum posted that they are getting some in stock though and are listing at 1199. So they probably got a bunch of the last ones from tactical imports.

Does anyone know much about compatibility of swapping barrels between different receivers? I’ve read a bit and watched a couple videos, it seems pretty straight forward, but it sounds like you can run into trouble if you’re swapping between different countries of manufacture, such as trying to put a Russian barrel on a Yugo or whatever.

I’ve got a D model with a short barrel that I’d like to put on another non-AK mag Chinese receiver, but I just realized the D model also has the short gas tube on it as well, and I haven’t read anything on compatibility matters involving parts beyond the barrel itself.

Before giving up on stripper clips realize that they are not all the same. The new after market ones are garbage. The surplus ones work and the best ones are the Czech surplus ones.

Stripper clips are very efficient and reliable If you know how to use them (tip, pull slightly up on the nose of the first round and push down with your thumb on the back end.) and you can carry a lot of them if needed. Never buy aftermarket ones. Czech surplus are the best I've used. I'd rather guarantee a good load than depend on crappy aftermarket mags that dont work (tapco mags actually run very well and require no mods unless you want the ability to use strippers too which can be done if you want) I'd avoid taking a dremel to the gun for an AR mag adapter but that's just me. Strippers load so fast the 5 extra rounds in an AR pistol mag are of little benefit IMO.

This is a battle proven rifle still in use to this day. Doubt youd find any advocates for aftermarket mags in the real world.

speaking about czech stripper clips, what happened to the bulk ammo? i dont see dealer selling them anymore.

They are still around, just Tenda sold out - for now. Prices seem to be fairly high. Not buying at 50 cents/round for surplus. I have more than enough Barnaul right now.

you are just getting ammo, you're also getting 2 stripper clips in a pack/box which is worth $3 so you are actually paying $.35 each rds. czech stripper clips works best.

The tenda stuff w-o the stripper clips was only 0.32 with 15% tax (210/750), if you got more stuff to get Free Ship. There were some good prices on 22lr to make the diff of ca $90. I hope they re-stock at the same price.
