School me on the ZK601

Normally they came with two triggers - single set trigger mounted and the spare (regular) trigger and a combi-tool (bolt dis-assembly/screwdriver to adjust trigger) in a little cotton baggy.

Not much to look out for -- perhaps check feeding and bolt lock-up with dummy cartridges; check the crown for unusual dents
Make sure you have the factory fitted stock ....see if the seller has any interchangeable inserts for the front sight. If the original Zeiss Jena scope AND base is available -- get it. These are very good scopes (and bases) although windage adjustment is in the base .. elevation is in the one of the two turrets (the other is focus) ... what calibre are you looking at .223/.243/.308W ? At one time Cdn Tire (years ago) was selling the .223 pretty inexpensively fwiw .. much cheaper than the other cailbres for some reason.

Oh yes .. get the sling as IIRC the sling swivels are a little smaller than the N/A equivalents.

Excellent rifles although the action is way too big for the .223 cartridge in my opinion.

I'll post up some pics of mine with the original Zeiss and base later.

Here are a couple pics of mine. 1987 manufacture so no pop up peep sight but still a nicely made rifle. Someone installed a poorly fit recoil pad before I got it and I will correct that eventually but other than that it's all original. I added a NOS base and picked up a minty original Zeiss Jena 4x from a fellow member here. I believe these scopes here made specifically for the ZKK series rifles.

The 601 is a highly under appreciated short action Mauser in my opinion. They maybe aren't the nicest finished or smoothest operating but the quality is there where it counts. They have a very good reputation for reliability.

Mine is in .308 and shows potential for excellent accuracy. I've only fed it a couple mild handloads and it shot groups around 1 1/2" so I'm sure with some development it could do better. I also have a very nice ZKK600 in 7x57 that I will finally be getting around to shooting so I'm looking forward to that.

Nice looking gun... Might hold out of or something else. Not a big fan of two-position safeties on a bolt (grew up on Mausers)

I might just wait (save up) for a pre-64 M70 featherweight in .308

If it helps at all, the safety locks the bolt closed when applied.

I hear you on the 3 position though. My favorite by far as well.

Of course the ZKK series can be converted......

It's odd, I feel naked with a two position safety. The "ready... Set... GO!" mentality has been engrained in my shooting.

What caliber and who has it for sale?
There might a gun nut or two interested if your going to pass.
JB, nice set-up you have there too.

.. yes .. if you have a line on one ... let us know who, what, where, cost. They arent making these any more and there are folks that have an attraction to them for various reasons.
