School me - Smoothing action on Lock n Load AP Progressive

Recently purchased a lock n load AP progressive.

On it's own it is very / extremely smooth and precise but was surprisingly slow for volume reloading (ok I am clumsy and hand feeding a shell casing and a bullet is not my forte).

Last night I installed a case feeder (have not loaded with it yet) and while cycling the press to check for function (it functions well) I instantly noted how rough it feels.

I suspect it is from the case feeder shuttle that moves the case onto the shell plate or from the wire that goes through the slot and moves the shuttle.

Will this smooth out over time or can I polish certain parts to smooth it out, and if so which ones?

I double checked everything and it is installed correctly and the wire that moves the shuttle is aligned and adjusted property.

I have not lubed the shuttle as I could not find any info on whether that should be done.

Any first hand advice is much appreciated.

Next step is finishing my DIY bully feeder

If oiling the shuttle would risk getting oil on the casings then I'd suggest you don't use oil. Perhaps instead find a "dry lube" that has teflon or some other dry film in a carrier. Perhaps the gun cleaner and lubricant EEZOX?

I load my Dillon 550b bullets and casings by hand. I situate the containers of both items closely to the die stations that need them so it's easy to reach them. For the bullets I found that a shallow tray like "bowl" is best. For the cases a low wall food container works like a treat. With the low or nearly no wall containers it's easier to see and grab the items.

Perhaps some fine tuning in your setup around the press is what is needed.

Obvious answer is to determine exactly where it is rubbing causing the rough action.

If it is the shuttle on the wire add a drop or two of oil on the wire as both item is metal. I made my own DIYer based on the HDY design and find a drop of oil really helps smooth out the shuttle dragging back/forth on the wire.

Didn't bother with the bullet feeder. Find doing both case and bullet is distracting. With case auto feeding all my attention is on looking down case to verify correct amt of powder while putting bullet in. After a while quick to Eyeballing empty or double feed.

With over 20k rnds recall only one squib. RCBS powder cop sit in the box, too much hassle to adjust for wc, swc, rn, multiple calibers.
...

I suspect it is from the case feeder shuttle that moves the case onto the shell plate or from the wire that goes through the slot and moves the shuttle.

I use Hornady gun cleaner and lube along the case path.
There should be absolutely no roughness.
Make sure the guide wire isn't rubbing on the inside of the slot.

Thanks all.

Figured it out. When installing the shuttle with the little piece of cardboard per the instructions the metal spring that provides tension to the plastic insert on the underside of the shuttle got partially wedged between the plastic insert and the underside of the shuttle causing he roughness.

Press is now running smoothly again.

Case feeder hugely speeds up the loading process.

How is that case feeder working and what calibers are you using it for?
