School of ducks

Out East where I am they are protected and classed as a species "of special concern". No idea how they taste but they are pretty to look at.

They are apparently no longer threatened in any way... it was weird for sure.... jumped up with a bunch of mallards etc....... of course, if I had it back I wouldnt have pulled the trigger..... but he was nowhere near where he was supposed to be..... and flushing against the sky with other ducks impossible to distinguish.....

We don't need to get paranoid, there isn't a CO or department alive interested in crucifying a fellow over one duck six years shot by accident, and clearly shown respect and mounted. I'm glad he shared it and there is no way ill events would come of it.

Actually worthy of a topic for another thread.... if I didnt think it would turn to a sheitfest I may start it myself... how many illegal / off season harvests have you declared.... harcons me me back to your bison thread..... sometimes you have to do the right thing..... co have never given me an issue for honesty. ...

Hmmmm. Does one claim illegally taken wildlife with the CO? Then get it mounted? I am aware of some who have. Some guys who didn't have papers got in a lot of #### here a few months back for not having papers

Depends on the CO and the circumstances: it's reviewed on a case by case basis. As mentioned.. here we can get birds of prey mounted (dead from natural causes or just the bitter cold etc) as long as we have a letter from the CO. I've seen a snowy owl mounted after being caught in a leg hold trap. The trapper brought it in to wildlife, got the paperwork and was allowed to keep it and get it mounted.

The CO provides you with paperwork that clearly states it is a permit to be in possession of that particular bird of prey. It also states the permit must remain with the mount . There's no way you can get in trouble for it that way. Obviously you and I are talking about unrelated snowy owl mounts as the owner of the one I am referring too still has it, the permit and has never had an issue. I doubt the one you are talking about was legally mounted if the owner got in trouble.

Also as previously mentioned, no self respecting taxidermist would mount something like that without the appropriate paperwork.

Yes... some of us do dealings honestly... I have personally called in 3 wounded deer I shot by the road and the meat went to local soup kitchens based on an agreement between co and local food bank...

As for the duck, I called it in and it had no practical purpose to anybody.... the co's were grateful I made the report (and interested that a harlequin made it this far inland)..... and gave me the thumbs up for a mount....

Co are not our enemy....
