Scientific study puts an end to .308/.270/30-06 debate!

Furthermore ........ Wait till the locals find out what weirdo stuff you brung for guns. They gonna be wondering about your manhood status.

This argument has to be the dumbest never ending argument in the world lol. If you can legally shoot it, have no problem paying whatever the price may be for ammo, and are comfortable shooting the gun, then shoot and enjoy the sport ;)

I personally have two 30-06's...but that's only because when I went for my guns, 30-06 was all I could get at the time/store. As far as preferred rounds, I like cheap ammo that I can buy anywhere... So I guess that leaves me anywhere in the 308, 270, 30-06 pile lol.
I go hunting at a friend's camp, with the same 4 guys every year. The guns we use would make most of the caliber-hip fellas on here laugh, or possibly puke lol. 30-06, 270, 308, and a 30-30 lol. Every deer we have had hanging in the barn at the camp, has been just as dead as the others.

The one which would fill the map would be....the .22 LR rimfire. This little number has dropped the biggest game in North America without sweat when used by a sure shot & within 75 yds. and is by far the biggest taker of game, both small & large in our neck of the woods.:)

There is no "big" game in your neck of the woods.

Move along.......

While I agree on the .22's suitability for big game, he lives in the home of the biggest Elk in the world. This said, the suggestion's severely misguided for big game, and I'm sure contains just as much tongue in cheek as the thread as a whole. :)

Except you will get a draw somewhere between once or twice in a lifetime to never, depending on whether you want a cow or bull.

Having seen how endangered the population is via poachers and loss of habitat I'd never want to fill the tag.

But yes some big game does exist here.

Pump rifles is hokie dokie ?

Wait till the up north feller quits bern'n fewl and sees mention of the tew-sevuntie.
Chit iz gonna hit the grill.

That sucks. You guys don't have an open season for Elk? That's too bad! By far the most invigorating, exciting animal to hunt. When you call and they come charging in bugling, it's sets the hair on end!! ;)

Never owned a .308 but i've been thinking of picking one up. I do own a couple of .30-06's and a .270 though and scoff at any inference that there's anything wrong with either caliber.I wouldn't feel under gunned with either one for all but the most dangerous of game animals.

What debate? I believe those wee islands on the bottom left of your inexplicable map are the Hawaiian Islands. No .308/.270/30-06 debate there or do you think they're part of Mexico? snicker. Mind you, Hawaii's State firearm laws are worse than California's that is far worse than ours.
And there is no color of any kind in NB. There is colour though.

Vancouver Island - which is where the poster of the .22 comment was from - has a draw for Roosevelt Elk. Odds for a bull draw vary from 2013 ranged 23.1:1 to 159.8:1. Most of the draws fall into the 50:1 to 80:1 range or so. What this means is that you will probably never get drawn in one of the better areas.

We do have a regular season for elk (Rocky Mountain variety) in other areas of the province.

This map is all wrong... SK should be .300 WM. :p

.308 is my .30 cal... and 7.62x39 is for when I feel like showing off. "you see that! The deer only cost me $200.50 to take down" lol

And a band of .30/30 along the North Shore of Huron from Sault Ste. Marie East to Pembroke... Ardent's map is closer, but the Air Soft needs to end at Parry Sound.
