Scona Range Closing

Hopefully the EGC will expand their hours. I'd usually make it down to Edmonton 5 or 6 times a year and stop by Scona to shoot some trap. Last time I was there I was told they were giving the International Trap equipment to the Edmonton Gun Club, since they said they would built an International trap field. I don't know where they are at with it.

The plan to move an international trap bunker to the Edmonton Gun Club will not happen. The Northern Alberta Shooters Association is actively seeking land for a new range.

What about AHEIA taking over the Gun Club (Airport)
They have done wonders down here.
Our club is now open 7 days /week
As far as amount of birds thrown... The year before they got it, Calgary Gun club threw Approx 100,000 clays.
Last year AHEIA threw very close to a 1,000,000

Great club, great organization. You all would be lucky to have them involved.

AHEIA has expressed an intention to open a range in the Edmonton area. As they are also constructing a new administrative building, the range is a few years down the road (my opinion). Talks with the Edmonton Gun Club have so far not been productive. The EGC is owned by shareholders who must see a benefit before the range could be turned over to AHEIA. While AHEIA is huge and well funded, land for a range in Edmonton is scarce. Don't hold your breath, this one could take a while.

Well Sharp, I do hope that AHEIA and EGC can come to terms. What do you think EGC is looking for out of this deal? Do they own the land?

Jamie

Jamie, the EGC has a long term lease with the airport authority - the gun club is actually on airport land. I don't think the EGC is looking for a deal with AHEIA. AHEIA is a non - profit organization, and WISE is a charitable organization while the EGC is privately owned. I get the impression that AHEIA is not looking to directly buy out the EGC. This would cause some difficulty for the trustees who look after the shares of the owners.

Frankly, AHEIA scares me a little. They have a monopoly on hunter training, and a monopoly on the licensing of PAL instructors in Alberta. While Mr. Gruszecki appears to be a genuine altruist, he will not be around forever. Monopolies always bother me, and AHEIA is quite ambitious. I hope that I am worried for nothing.

Well Sharp, from what involment I have had with AHEIA, I am sure you have nothing to worry about.
Great organisation, run by great people.
And your right about Mr Gruszecki. He is doing it all on his dime. He does it becouse he loves it. Those are the best kind of people to get involved.

Jamie

BTW, I do hope for the sake of Trap shooting in this province that AHEIA gets a hold of something up there. I would love to see more and larger registered shoots going on.
There should be some sort of annual showdown EG North Vrs South.
Make it a annual thing.
Say a large team event, plenty of fun for all levels.
Are you going to the provincials?
I think I will be there
