looking for a scope for my 444. bushnell elite 3200 i am leaning towards new, 1.5-4.5x. another option i have is to pick up an old weaver k2.5 for about 40 bucks, are those any good?

so i guess the question is, should i go out and get a new scope with warranty, or cheap out and take a chance on the weaver? it looks to be from the 1960s or so (same style as an old k4 i have). were they durable scopes?

ya, i was also looking at the grand slam, seemed really nice. the elite is only 250, but the old weaver is gonna cost me 40 bucks taxes in. i have a similar vintage k4. reticle looks like something out of an old war movie.:) don't think the field of view will even be close, but thats a pretty big $$ difference.

I think your 444 deserves something better than used. My buddy put a Tasco Titan 1.5x6x42 on his and it shoots amasing. For under $300 you can't beat it.And it's got good warranty. Either way you can't go wrong with a big thunderstick like the 444. Have fun:p

i have a compact b&l 4x on my 444. sits low , looks great and has all the power i need. fixed 2.5 to 4 would work good. new weaver 4x under $200.

For 2006 moose hunt, I replaced my 3200 2-7x on the Marlin 1895 with a Bushnell Holoscope. My Marlin is purely a woods rifle (<100 yards). I also bring bring along my 300 WM with 4-12x scope for open area (up to 500 yards) depending on my assigned stand for a given day.

The K2.5 will be plenty of scope for the ranges you will be using the 444 cartridge. Even at 200 yds, a 2.5 scope has more than enough definition for big game hunting.

Mount it up, give it a try and let us know how it works. If you don't like it, you can always sell it to me. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on a hunting rifle. :D

the 1-4, 1.5-4.5 (or5) idea sounds emminently practical for the 444. leave it dialed up for most applications, and then if you're gonna be in close cover, dial it down. seems PERFECT.
