Mounted my Zeiss scope and ran out of windage adjustment sighting it in. Tried another scope and same problem. Removed scope and put a straight edge on the mounts and find the are not aligned with the barrel - front mount was not centered on the barrel. I loosened the mounting screws and was able to reposition the front mount sideways maybe 1/16 inch and tighten it down. Hopefully it will stay there (locktited the screws). At 100 yards, I estimate that this changed my point of impact by approximately 2 ½ feet, and got my windage adjustments back close to neutral. As the x bolt mounts are contoured to the receiver I expected them to be machined to tolerances that they would be totally self centering with no lateral play.

Has anyone else encountered this, is this normal for Talley mounts on the x bolt?

Thanks

The mounting holes are not off center on the receiver - because of the contour line on the receiver we could see that the mount was sitting a hair to the left off center. Loosening the screws it was quite easy to move the mount to the the right and center it on the contour lines on the receiver. I guess when I bought these I figured drop them on and they would be machined to tight enough tolerances that they self centered.

I use Talleys on all my rifles have never had an issue 30 plus sets.
Have never heard of this with Talleys

yes - surprised me too. Mounted scope and used all the windage bore sighting - figured scope issue. Rotated the scope 90 degrees and put the elevation turret on the side and used all the adjustment up trying to center x hair. Went whoa doesn't look like the scope - took a scope off another gun and same problem used all my windage. Then started to look at the rings -it was obvious from the machining on the recevier that the front mount was too far 1/16 inch at most to the left. It's all good now - but if this mis-machining issue with the mount I worry that it may move under recoil

Mounting scopes is often more than just tightening the bases and installing the rings... I always use a long 1 inch aluminum tube to see if the mounts are centered with the muzzle before tightening them tight and mounting the scope. Often a base need tweaking to one side of the other... and when the screws are tight it stays there fine.

On the Browning/Tally integrated x-bolt rings, there is a Front & Rear stamped on the bottom. I only mention this because I've seen a rifle with the rings mounted incorrectly.

That's what I have done in the past. Never had Talleys before - figured based on their reputation and they way they are designed they would just fit bang on - guess I was wrong.
