My son is visually impaired (legally blind) but has vision in his left eye that allows reading and day to day activities. He manages extremely well, no sympathy required. We’re trying to find something that works better than standard duplex. Tried a Firefly reticle and it’s too thick. Considering a #4 or #1 but they’re hard to find in higher magnification which is required. Anyone with experience find something that works like Trijicon or know if you can attach a cell phone to the scope to better view the reticle and target? Going to try my VX5 HD with Firedot today. Any experience would be helpful. Thanks

An illuminated reticle like the chevron in Trijicon might work.

What about a dot? Fast on target, but admittedly not for precision work as the dot covers the target.

Reticle is for hunting mostly, at the range he’s got lots of time and usually better light. Went out yesterday for our last day of whitetail. Tried my Firedot VX5 and really liked it at first light and midday. However, when the deer started to come out in the evening he instinctively grabbed his own rifle and then couldn’t find the crosshairs in the dim light with the buck blending in with the trees in the background. :( More research required but the adjustable intensity level of the Firedot seems to work for him. Thanks for the info.

He’s decided to give the Leupold Firedot a try as he’s finding mine consistently with practice. Got one on the way so now for a more consistent practice schedule to verify and be ready for next year.

Thanks Dan, I’ll do anything I can to keep him shooting and hunting. He’s made me a better hunter realizing how close we need to get and how patient I need to.

Cheers, Blaine

Patience and practice with the Leupold Firedot scope paid off. At the range his groups shrunk dramatically so felt confident we could get it done this year. Filled his doe tag on the second day at 75 yards and then his best buck to date on the fourth day. Snow on the ground helped but at sunset he got on target fast and made a good shot through the front shoulders. Here’s some pictures, l think I was more excited than he was!
