Well I went out with the 30/30 just now... I had 5 or 6 bullets hangin around, so I figured I'd make a video...

I shot at 207 metres...170 grain Federals..On my first shot, I think, I haven't watched the video yet, I was steadying the cross hairs, and looking at the acmera at the same time. When it all looked good, I pulled the trigger

RIGHT ACCROSS THE BRIDGE OF THE NOSE...BLOOD EVERYWHERE!!!

I'll have the video up on Speakers Corner as soon I get a chance to upload it this evening...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Scope bite from a 30/30,.... I'll be hiding under a rock for the next little while..

When I got home my 45/70 told me I was a ##### and spit at me...:D

Scoped myself with a 25/06 once. It was winter & I was shooting with gloves on. Touched one off before I was fully ready. It didn't cut me, but it stung like a Bit$h.

My wife drew a Mule deer tag before we were married. We stalked a 180 class buck. I let her use my shoulder as a rest to make a nice steady shot. She didn't hold on to the gun tight enough & scoped herself bad. Didn't bleed, but broke her nose.

She end up wounding it & it ran about 700 yards & bedded down right in the open because she hit it good. Plus there was about 2 feet of snow that year. After she collected herself we stalked up to the deer on the opposite side of the hill as close as we could get. We snuck up to the ridge, it was about a 400 yard shot (386 yards later when I GPS'd it). I told her to put the cross hair just on the top of his back, BOOM, it didn't get out of its bed. What a shot. I was so excited, even more excited thatn her. This was her first deer too. Beginers luck. I'll post a picture when I can find it, that was back in the film days. 186 gross. Very nice.

She swelled big time, we did not realize it was broken until later in the week when the swelling went down. The doc reset it and it healed crooked. A couple years later she had it reset, it was 10 times as bad. She would never have went through the pain again If she knew it was going to be that bad. Here is how it looked the day after the doc reset it.

Man did I get some funny looks from my neighbors.

I cut myself that way once with my bolt action swedish mauser. I was screwing around taking fast shouldering shots in a gravel pit, and I must have done something odd about the way I shouldered it because it never did that before or since.

I find that people tend to mount thier scopes way too far to the rear to try to get the proper "Eye Relief" always forgetting that they will most likely not take a shot standing straight upright and will just about all the time be way closer to the scope when they shoot. I try to mount scopes for people so that they have to reach, just a little bit, to get to the proper place. Never had a customer complain about getting kissed by one of the scoped I've mounted for them!

Just got my first badge of shame today. A friend asked if anyone wanted to shoot his .458 Win Mag Ruger #1, and I jumped up immediately. I've owned a .458 before, so no problem. His had a scope on it, and I had to crawl the stock a bit, which was my first mistake. The second was not checking the trigger pull first. Ouch! 510 grains went out, and 9+ pounds came back real fast, nailed me right above the eye, bled like a pig. Nice goose egg, too! That didn't stop me from asking for a second shot, though . . .

When I was in my twenties, I was around a farm where the guys were doing some shooting, and the guy asked me if I'd like to try it out. Never shot a rifle before I asked him what to do. He said get behind it, relax and squeeze the trigger. I guess I must have relaxed too much, forehead full of 25-06, saw my first set of stars that day. And I had now developed a huge flinch with every rifle I shouldered with a scope for about 10 years after that.
I'm cured now. FS

Oh man, did I laugh...and sir, good on ya for having a lil giggle at your own expense! I think that 30-30 is in luvvv :bigHug:

I was shooting my 378, while the barrel would cool, I'd "talk smack" to my friend with his 338 win. After I was satisfied with the 378 I shot the 338.
Blood started trickling out of a numb spot, above my right eye.
Everyone was rolling on the ground, bellowing with laughter!
