Scope bite...

Knox recoil stock and a scope? Maybe ditch both of them?

the knox sure makes 3 1/2" buckshot and slugs feel a lot nicer;) i have a scope on this gun while deer hunting to use the gun to its full potential as its capable of 2-3" groups at 125 yards. but, i've developed a flinch with this gun and it took 2 shots to down a fox yesterday with the first at 50-60 yards (grazed it) and the 2nd at 15 yards.

i'm just going to buy a dedicated slug gun because:

1) during the shotgun hunt i cant use my 870 for birds/small game
2) costs $20 every year to sight it in as i dont have a cantilevered barrel
3) no longer have access to a free range
4) knox + scope = bad idea
5) excuse to buy a new gun ;)

buy an Ithaca Deer Slayer III. Awesome dedicated deer shotgun.

Can't say it has ever happened to me YET either though! :D But seriously guys common...this is why we are told to wear eye pro...sheesh! hahah

my 870 has a knox spec ops stock that works great. the knox makes the recoil more tolerable, but when you forget to extend the stock all the way with a scope on it really sucks. the stock compresses 2-3" at the shot to absorb recoil so its rather important to extend the stock to its longest position. apparently i forgot this time.

probably need stitches as its a good 1/4" deep, but those tiny band aids seem to be doing the trick. left one heck of a blood trail on the way to the target and back, which was 100 yards at the time.

the shotgun hunt starts tomorrow and i still need to take a few more shots to sight in. so much for a morning hunt. i really hope i dont develop a flinch because of this...

any other fun stories?

You got any pic's? I need a good laugh.

haha, some good stories here, well this early season this year me and a buddy go out after work, seeing nothing and almost the end of the day we walk into a lake, and see nothing, on the way out we spook a grouse. travis being pissed off that he got scared shoulders his .300 and lets lead fly. im watching the grouse flopping around on the ground with no head, laughing that he actually got it. i look over at him and there is blood everywhere, down his nose / face, onto his shirt, on the rifle. now i can help myself, i laugh histarically. once we get back to the truck i bandage him up, and take him to the hospital. got it all glued together now, and has a nice reminder to always hold her tight.

actually, i was at a local shop looking for a savage 220 and ended up looking at a 210. he then handed me one of those deer slayers and it felt really nice for the 2-3 seconds i was holding it before i noticed the price tag  cant fall in love with something i refuse to buy....it'll haunt me. :p

We should start a picture thread for these scope kisses :) Best scar wins a case of beer.

okay Ill play

I've been nicked few times...No biggie...I'm a stock crawler and I like big rifles...Comes with the territory.

There was one real bad cut from a 7-3/4 pound 340Wby.
I was standing on a landing when a sweet bear stepped from behind cover hell bent on leaving and was hell bent on his fur.
The shot was straight below the cliff I was standing on ( I remember seeing my foot in the 1.5X scope as I touched it off). Next thing I know I am regaining consciousness and looking through two blood filled eyes I discover my hunting buddy laying next to me!!?

I figured the gun blew up and hurt us both, but no.... my buddy was laughing so hard he couldn't stand...Once he saw I was OK he laughed harder to the point he was quite literally crying.....FKer! :D

The gash was evil, to the bone on my forehead, and exposed white bone looking stuff in my nose. Near 30 years later and I still have the scar.

I got the bear, but it turned out he had a big rub on his rump....Figures!

Do you really need the 3 1/2 shells? I have a Knoxx breacher stock and I took it off, I dont care for its mushy feel during recoil. I find alot of less powerful stuff very accurate anyways.

you drive a polaris, but you're calling me a girl? :D:p

After the last quad accident I suppose its possible, but I dont think so :p

surprisingly, i have yet to injure the goods while quading. it's one of the few body parts that i havent hurt on that damn machine...yet;)

i've taken a few weird angled shots where my shoulder was pressed up against a tree for the shot. it doesnt feel too great considering i have a screwed up shoulder. the knoxx makes it bearable, but it still hurts. even 2 3/4" turkey loads bother my shoulder so i might as well use the big ones as it doesnt feel too great either way.

two different doctors said i'd be good in 4-6 weeks...its been 7-8 years

to get a savage 210 or a 220, that is the question...

:redface:well not exactly
it did happen while hunting though, lets just say that when trying to drag a heavy objects (like a deer carcas) all sharp objects (like knifes, hatchets or ehem mechetes) should not be in the hands, especially when its raining and wet

its definitly an idiot mark :p

I met an American at a hunt camp in Africa who showed up for dinner the first night with a nice deep cut over his eye. He was shooting a Weatherby .300mag and must have spent an hour explaining how it happened. It seemed like everytime I ran into that guy throughout the week he had a new, fresh cut on his brow...by the end of the week he looked like someone took a meat tenderizer to his head. During the latter part of the week he must have gotten too tender on that side, so he tried switching shoulders and promptly started chewing up the left side as well.

His PH confided that his shooting left a little to be desired!

Have been hit 13 times now from big bores and have went thru 3 mild concussions from them. Last one was the worst,378 WBY and I took the brake off it cause every one else was to scared to and promptly took a 6 power redfield full front and center to the center of the forehead. Asked for the rest of the 19 rounds and fired them from a kneeling position then they took me to the hospital . Had to wipe the blood away from my eyes for each shot but got thru it.

I have some permanent deep scars in my forehead and now a few years later in life I am starting to suffer from some vision problems which have been associated to getting cranked in my fore head a few to many times.:HR:
