Scope caps/covers- do you use em?

I aint never had a scope before and well, I heard people use these. I have a bikini style that it comes with I figure I could throw that on if it rains. Anyone use scope covers? necessary at all?
 
I use flip ups on all my guns. Butler creek is one company but the better ones are from Weaver. If you want your lens to last and stay clean all the time they are worth it by far. Your not cleaning dust,water, snow and such off. See through caps are the best as I have had to use them on fast shots.

Never had problems yet get caught on things and I have used them for 10 years or better....
 
I love them. We tend to stand hunt, so they're closed on the way out to the stand and when I get settled in, I open them. If I see something, it takes less than a second to have them open and the glass ready for use. They keep windborne dust, snow, rain, or any plant matter off the lens. They keep the lenses clean during storage as was mentioned earlier. It's a personal choice of course, but I have them on all my glass. I haven't seen the weaver covers and I don't know if anyone in the GTA sells them, but I've not had any problems with the Butler Creek covers. There, my 2 cents worth.
 
Flip Up scope covers for me as well, I've got little wear marks and scratches on the outside of my scopes but the glass looks brand new thanks to the covers.

I'll always buy the Butler Creep flip ups for as long as they make them.
 
I use flip up caps on most of my rifles, IMO they are the best invention since gun powder!! I am exaggerating of course, but I do think they are amazing.
 
i've only got one scoped at the moment. Used butler creek flip ups, but was surprised how easily I lost the rear cover when walking through the bush. Haven't bothered to pickup a new one so I usually just throw the original bikini cover on now, and it comes off when I'm in the stand.

Hate those flippy covers.
Years ago, they made those rubber ones that fit over
the ends and were held by a long rubber band type elastic.
Another rubber ring went around the scope tube and one held
on the front cap with another ring to the stock.
Neat stuff. Use your thumb to flip the rear cap off and the system
flipped over the side out of the way still secured to your rifle.
I have a few of them and they are the cats jammies, so to speak.
 
For many years, I used Butler Creeks, but not happily -- it every season it seemed I would either lose one, or the hinge pin would slip out and I'd lose part of one. Either way, they seemed to be a consumable rather than an investment.

I've since switched to Leupolds in my scopes that can use them, and am extremely happy with them. Some of my high-use scopes have been wearing the same set for 6 years, and they're showing no sign of wearing out. The damn things are expensive, for sure -- but they work, and they last.

I use butler creek and so far have not experienced any issues, they are quick and easy and dont get lost.
A flick of 2 thumbs and they are up and out of the way.
After a passed up shot at a decent buck 15 years ago because of rain water on my scope lens I bought them and use them on all my scopes.
Have to be honest haven't tried the leupold but wil now just to see the difference.

Ive broken 3 Butler Creeks in 2 months.... I when shooting Saturday and broke 2 front flip up and it wasn't even that cold @ -10

Im looking for better options as well.... And no I didnt use excessive force they are just cheaply made....
 
Butler Creek flip up caps is what I use
I have yet to find a scope which I could not pair up with them as they have quite a number of standard sizes available.
And you never have to worry about fidgeting with them, just pop on, pop off.
