I have two Scopchief's, a 4X and a 2.5X and a Balvar 4X and was surprised by the clarity of the images. I found them at gunshows for under $100.00 each. I put the Balvar 4X on my Marlin 336 and a Scopchief 2.5X on my other 336. They are just as clear as my Compact 3x9x33mm Leupold and are more age appropriate on my 336's. Stick with Scopechief VI's and you'll be happy.

Just picked up a scopechief Vl in 4x40 wide angle.Wow is it clear.
also have a new, never mounted 3-9x40 matte, bought on ebay in the mail right now.

Had a 1.5-6x32mm for about 10 years until it capped out from recoil, Bushnell replaced it with a Legend 2-7x32 which is better glass still 3200 and 4200's are far better
