Well I ended up with a Red scope. Its a really nice scope (Leupold VXIII 8.5-25x50) ....but its red. I talked to Leupolds custom shop and they advised that it is not a good idea to re-anodize it as it can mess up the tolerances.
I have pondered the idea of selling it, trading it, painting it or just leaving it as it is.. Not really a big fan of leaving it red but i just can't bring myself to paint a $1200 scope. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Any way of coating it that would be durable and look nice while not destroying its function or value? Or should I just trade it away?

Contact "murdoc" on this site and he'll paint it for you at a decent price and QUALITY work any color you wish! I've had him paint a couple rifles for me and he's work is top quality!

p.s. RED for real ... weird! HAHA. Hell post a pic ;)

Heres a pic of the scope. It looks a little bit darker red in person. Looks better than the pic. I also have a sun shade for it.
Updated with better pic.

I'd just build a target rifle with a red stock...For bench work, it wouldn't bother me at all...:D

Build a rifle to suit. Seriously. You just won a custom optic. Spend 1200 on a new build and be the envy of everyone at the range!

It is definately a nice scope and I am starting to think that I can't paint or coat it. Just can't bring myself to do it. It just went up in the EE for trade. I'm not really in a position right now to buy another expensive rifle at the moment (paying for a wedding) so i will see if anything interesting comes up as trade. If not then it will stay in the gun room closet for a while untill I have some cash to do a nice benchrest rifle build. It has some potential to make a really cool looking rifle if done right.

WOW that looks great actually ... I thought it was just some weird paint/anodize jobby ... I'm off to check your EE ad and we may talk. ;)

No, it looks really nice. It was done at Leupolds Custom shop so it is pretty slick.

Put a price on it in the EE, you'll probably garner more interest. I know it would work for me. - dan

What would it be worth? Its brand new obviously.

Sells for $1230 new + plus the sun shade
Custom work (engraving) doesn't add much if anything. Red would most likely subtract from the price. Where does that leave us?
