I'm shopping around for a system to improve the performance of an 8mm Small ring Mauser. I've lucked upon a reproduction of a WW2 side mount that is actually affordable. But it's advertised as having 26.3mm ring size...is this a common outside diameter of 25mm scopes, or an odd European size?
If this is a silly question ; forgive me, I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to optics.
Thanks for your time

Leopold makes 26.5mm scope rings , I know as I ordered a set for my Russian Running bore scope, that has 4 turrets!!! You can always install shims ,so you can put a 25.4mm scope in this mount you found, or a 26mm Euro scope like a Kahles may work out fine? cheers Dale Z!

Here's the reply received from Leupold today:

Ted,

Unfortunately we do not carry 26mm rings. Try checking with www.opticsplanet.com

Best Regards

I need a set of 26mm rings to mount a Kahles scope. I understand
you make them for the European market. Can you tell me your part
number, so I can order a set. Thanks, Ted

So, like a good boy, I followed the link to Optics Planet, and found one inch and 30 mm rings, no 26mm.

There have been 26mm and 26.5mm scope tubes from pre war days in Europe. The guys at accumount said their 26.5 rings will clamp enough to hold a 26mm but they are not split rings.
Such a shame, I think it would be cool if they made their claw mounts with a Weaver hole spacing and split rings if even for just one inch. For some reason they don't seem to agree.

Not hard to take .023" out of a set of rings with a 4 jaw chuck.

My sako 1 inch just needed the bottom one done just took off the two top edges ever so littel. my very old rings no way but the early 80s easy. kahles scopes are tough
