Scope failure on 7 mm PRC

I’m heading to NS at the end of the month to do some work so maybe I’ll wait until then.
I can at least look at them in person.
Cabelas, Hirsch maybe a couple of other places there.
My budget is around $1500.
Had it narrowed down to Steiner or Leupold, but may look at Swarovski and Zeiss as well.

Zeiss V4 4-16 is an excellent scope ! But a bit more $ then you want to spend . I LOVE mine . RJ

A couple thoughts - magnification and variable power for hunting. My experience was mostly on White Tail deer in Saskatchewan - often pushed out of a bluff - so many times taken "on the run".

I used to have a 2-7 power scope on my 308 Win. That scope lived for a while on my 7x57. Was changed to a fixed 6X. I had noticed that when deer bust out of bush, rifle came up and I was shooting - I do not recall EVER adjusting the magnification for a shot at a deer - certainly, there is NO TIME to turn DOWN the power - I tended to fire with whatever that variable power was set at, at the time. Others may have different experience, or more discipline than I had for that. Over the years, I took and saw taken many head of game with fixed 3X, 4X and 6X scopes - I am just not convinced that the disadvantages of variable power scopes - especially then - were worth the trade-off over fixed power.

Is a thing about how much magnification is needed - for HUNTING. I fired many 3 and 5 shot groups at 100 yards, from sandbags - under 1" - with a fixed Weaver 3X scope. You can read of Phil Shoemaker dropping a client's wounded moose at 500 or 600 yards (?) with a 2 1/2 power scope. My Uncle told me in Canadian Army during WWII, they would fire at a target marker that was about 12" wide - at 400 yards (?), with iron sights - I recall him mentioning how easy that was, since the target, to his eye, was about exactly the same width as their front sight post. And is still today target shooters for "full bore" who will fire and get groups at 1,000 yards - laying prone, no rests and using double aperture sights - no scopes at all. I do not recall being able to shoot "groups" at game, or to get "ranging" or "sighting in" shots - was pretty much all about that first cold barrel shot - where does it go compared to the sights - the rest of the shooting tended to be just practice - maybe to get better at breaking the trigger without changing the sight picture. But, there was one White Tail doe that I got - the only one that I remember taken with a round from the magazine - perhaps the fourth round fired at her - all the rest taken were at least hit with the first shot - and I did empty the rifle many times!

But but but he said "it has clear glass ,clearer than the Diamondback HP.The turrets are really nice, really nice tactile clicks.
Illuminated dot as well and a Zero Lock."
Exactly, if they spent more time on the internals and charged extra$$$$ it would be a winner.
Hard to get all that though unless you want to get into the $2000 + range.

The VX 5 HD 3-15 almost got it , but not quite.

You still don't get much scope for $1500. Especially Canadian pesos. I would save longer.
Add a 15 % government liquor fund on top of that as well.

There is a couple Zeiss V4 4-16 on the EE , maybe worth looking at.
1 is $1650 and the other is $1250, not sure why the big gap in price though as they pretty much look identical.
Maybe I’m missing something?

I have one; bit of a story there. I bought a Conquest 3-9 years ago when they were still a new thing for 300 bucks. I was basically OK with it until it died and I sent it in for warranty. Glass was good and it held zero which is all I needed out of it. Well that and not breaking, the feature it didn't provide. Perhaps because of availability when the replacement came it was a brand new 4-16 V-16 complete with the full compliment of bells and whistles. Issues of suitability for purpose aside I suppose I won that deal. Best 300 dollar scope I have I guess. Trouble is; if I had to pay full pop for that thing I'd be looking to kick a hole in someone. Its like looking through a culvert at some power settings. Haven't looked at it for years, which does happen when you have more guns than you can shoot.

Glad your luck was better though.

15 here in NS too. But the 5% is across the board which is why I offered to only take 10. I'm fair like that.
Well that makes more sense. I know how valuable you think your time is but times are getting hard, here on the rock.
How about we split the the diff ? I’ll give you 5 % and we’ll call it a day. Lol

7 mm PRC has quite the recoil, also depending if the stock is heavy or not. I tried an air rifle Chinese scope on a 308 and to my surprise, all went fine. All scopes north of $200 should not have any problem, heck even the $140 Bushnell Banner will hold up.

The gun is just under 6 lbs. I was using a lead sled, so not sure if that contributed to it
