Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a scope to put on a Marlin 1895G (18.5" barrel)?

What kind of range and accuracy are you getting from yours? Similar to a 30-30?

Thanks,

Scott.

I have the regular model 1895, but it wears a Leupold m8 4x, and shoots nice tight groups at 100 depending on the load. I have found Hornady leverevolutions to be incredibly accurate, my cheap cast handloads less so.
I have also had a reddot and a cheap Bushnell on it, accurate nonetheless.

I've seen scopes (at least 1 leupold) scrambled from heavy loads in the .45/70, 480grain at 1900 fps if I remember correctly....so I give them a miss and opt for peep sights on heavily loaded 45/70s. You don't want this to happen for the first time , on a big game hunt, remember, what can go wrong...will!!

Iron sights wouldn't work for me any longer. I have a Bushnell 3200 2-7x on my 1895 for quite a few years.

As long as you know the bullet drop, it is good to 200 yards.

I currently have a Bushnell 3200, 1.5 to 4, at the Bushnell warranty shop, after my standard 1895 45-70 scrambled it.
A year before that the same 45-70 scrambled a good quality, older, low power variable Redfield.
What do I reccommend for a scope for a Marlin 45-70? One that has a good warranty!

I didn't know 3200 series had a 1.5-4x scope. Anyway, mine is working fine, I never had any issue with any of my 3200 scopes. Thay are excellent values for the money you spend.

My last three purchases are VXIII as I like them better plus that I can afford to spend the few extra bucks now.
