Scope for .223 Varmit rifle

Hi, I have a savage 11/111 ( short barreled hog hunter) that I use around the farm daily . I had a Leupold vx3 on it which I put on another rifle I have.

Purchased a Nikon p223 in 3-9x40 with the adjustable turrets as they seemed handy, it was cheap enough to not worry about it getting messed up and thrown in the truck or tractor. First one out of the box the reticles were canted to the turrets, had it replaced for the more expensive 4-12 model which was also bad out of the box and white/ foggy inside, and now on the 3rd which won't keep a zero (keeps dropping but holds left/right perfect)

Long story short, should of purchased something more expensive to start with, and looking for suggestions.
I'm not sure of any other scopes with similar turrets or reticle. The furthest field is a good 800yard straight and has roughly been marked off in 100 yard markers, which is what the scope excelled in for being easy to sight in.

Looking for suggestions on what to throw ontop of it so I can get back to shooting.
 
I will defiantly look into it. I'm hoping to get some sort of money back so I don't have to deal with them. What I deserve for buying anything at basspro . But it's small/ local enough that everyone knows each other, and a $400 scopes ended up costing over $1400 with the livestock loss so they claim to make it right.

These scopes seem to be be in a class of there own with the five times magnification range in this price range. I notice that they both have nearly the same weight according to the specifications which seems a little odd, since it would seem logical that the higher powered one which is bigger and has a larger objective would weigh more.
 
give a look at the weaver tactical 3-15 illuminated. its FFP for constant holdover and locking turrets

SIII is a very good option ans the LRMOA reticule is from far my favorite.

if like me,you are really hard on your stuff, nightforce NXS is one option you should look at.
 
Thanks for the options to look at, definitely hard on stuff, it sits in the tractor while I cut hay , you can shoot coyotes all day when they run out to grab the mice.

I was looking at the 5.5-22x50 nxs but would have to order one no where around here really has much of anything. Even the bass pro stuff isn't much over $800 just isn't much of a market or demand.
 
Bit of an update, local store decided to return it, went through the process of " you don't hold you head properly on the stock" " your changing bullet weights and thinking it's going to hit the same" etc for the 4th time. It's funny how inexperienced the people selling and handling fire arms really are and explains why there's so little knowledge of it here.

Anyways, I haven't even opened the box yet but it's supposed to be an "upgrade for the hassle" still a 4-12x40 scope but a vortec diamondback AO. Not sure if I want to bother using it and just selling and putting it towards another.
 
I have the Nikon Monarch 3 5-20x44SF on my 223 range rifle, and it tracks well, and is very reliable. I have also owned the 3-12x42SF, and the 4-16x42SF, and was very happy with both of them. For a coyote rifle, the 3-12x42SF would be a great choice. On the rifles where I choose to spend more on a scope, as on my own varmint rifles, I use the Zeiss HD-5 3-15x42 Lockplex, but it is a great deal more expensive.
 
the mistake is purely from buying anything at this location. After saying I haven't opened it, curiousity got the better of me. It's sealed in the air tight bag it comes in and is dinged up to the point the aluminum shows from under the coating. I have absolutely zero clue what they do with them or if it's from the shipping but I highly doubt it.

From the way the store is staffed I wouldn't be surprised if they just throw them under the counter when restocking
