I have a VXR in 3x9 I like the scope a lot, but it's a tad heavy. And with all due respect to the good opinions above, if I am carrying a gun in Canada, I don't need a huge objective because I am only hunting in broad daylight. And at theses mid to low magnifications, I would rather spend my money on low weight and clear glass. For that reason, I spent 900 on a Swaro Z3 and mounted it on my 30.06. I couldn't be happier. The 1" tube makes for a featherweight. The VXR is illuminated and looks ###y, but that gun is chunky with it.
That being said, if you already have your rings, you may be more inclined to stay the course with what you are already considering. I have found, though, that the slightly higher end scopes hold their value come resale time.
