I have a Bushnell Elite 6500 3.5-30 and I have trouble seeing a .25 cal hole at 300 yds. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't... YMMV.
I'd still go for the SIghtron SIII if I had a choice but the price is getting up there I bought mine used on EE and am very happy with it and the price..If budget is a factor then an 8x32 40 Bushnell Elite 4200 is great value for shooting paper to 300 yards. I have been using one for shooting a 223 at paper for over 8 years and it has served its purpose well.
There is not a lot of vertical adjustment and the recticle is a little heavy but the glass is clear, not that far off my Sightron SIII or DMRs.
For your purpose, if you can pick one up used on the EE, it would be ideal and there will be no need for a spotting scope to see your hits.
Exactly what I have and it'd greatSame scope here, same results too.
With my Sightron 10-50x60 I can see .224 on paper, easily.
