Considering these two scopes. Any opinions on either or something else in the price range? Will be mounting on a 338 win mag browing xbolt.

For hunting, Leupold all the way, of those 2 choices. If you hunt where you are always near a phone/mailbox for the awesome Vortex warranty, you could go that way too.

Your links just go to the list for all viper scopes or all VX3, they don't show what model you're considering...

Of those 2 I would go with the leupold, howver... I would recommend you look on the EE instead. There are better options on ther, and it's always nice to support fellow CGN'rs!

Not a Leupold fan. I had heard that dealers commonly hand you a Vortex to replace a problem scope, but there was also a thread on here about Vortex, that was very discouraging.

Best warranty is the one you do not use. Years ago that was Leupold, now neither the product or service is up to that legacy.

Most scopes are tested against thousands of rounds of 375 recoil. Many manufacturers and product lines are up to the 338.

Go to a LGS and try a bunch of scopes. Any scope above $300 should be good.....now with the Canadian Peso....maybe more $$.

for most hunting and average long range the vortex does great I put a vortex on my oldest sons gun never before had he shot past 350 yards first time out once I had done load development got the gun ready took him out he was shooting out to 1080 yards. he could not believe it.
