I broke down and bought one of those new-fangled bolt guns in 17 HMR(a Marlin); now I need scope/rings/mount, but don't know s**t about them,.... didn't know you could buy a gun without sights!;)

Anyhow, what do you guys recommend? Can it be done for under 200 bucks?

Your 17 has absolutely ZERO recoil but is capable of astounding accuracy.

You can go as cheap as you want and the scope will likely last forever. But you will want something that has at least a minimal level of quality to it. I fine reticle helps too.

I like the Bushnell Banner 4-14x40 scopes. The tasco Varmint scopes are ok too.

All under $200.

You might also check around here on the EE. You can probably find a good deal on something much better.

If you were to happen across someone's old bushnells scopechief grab it and run! You will be happy you did.

I saw a BSA Sweet 17 at my local store. Anyone try one yet?

I was curious enough to buy my first BSA scope about two years ago, and stupid enough to get my second a couple of months ago. They are total crap, IMO.

A guy put it best on a U.S. website: BSA = Bought S**t Again!:bangHead:

John

p.s. Specifically, my second one was a Sweet 17. I found that the reticle did not begin to approximate the drop on a HMR. The Burris Ballistic Plex, on the other hand, can be made to work very well with the Hummer.
