These scopes are a compromise between quality and price. Quality is adequate (surprisingly good, in fact), and price will not break you.
I've tried Bushnell Banner AO 6-18x50 with a Duplex reticle and Bushnell Banner AO 6-24x40 with a Mil-Dot reticle on my .17 HMR's.
Of the two, I prefer the 6-24 with the Mil-Dot. My .17's are used for range paper and gophers, and I generally use some kind of rest or bipod or cross-stick, depending on the situation. This makes the higher magnification a bit easer to deal with.
I also tried a Meuller APV 4.5-14x40 and did not like it as well.
