I have a sears roebuck 30-30 lever action and I want to put a scope on it. I plan on using it for deer hunting down the road. I am looking for recommendations for a scope. I am a complete newb when it comes to scopes and hunting so I don't even know what range I should be looking for. I don't have a firm budget but I would prefer to keep it under $500.

If you could also point me in the direction for what is required to mount the scope it would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Is it a Winchester or Marlin?
Hopefully it's a Marlin made gun and it's drilled and tapped for a Marlin scope rail which you will need along with some rings and a scope.
Should be easy within your budget.....I'd look for a lower power 1-4 variable scope.

Peep sights are what I really like on levers.

Sears didn't make firearms, but they did contract many other companies to build guns for them. The model of the rifle should be stamped someplace, usually either on the barrel or on one of the tangs. The model number may appear odd also, like 273.532, so check carefully. The model number is important, that is what determines what scope base is required.
