Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 1.75-5x32mm got a few of these good enough optical quality for the money < $300 generous eye relief had 1 on my .416 Ruger never broke don't see why it wouldn't hold up to .45-70 recoil (ymmv). https://i.imgur.com/kssuJAc.jpg
I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5-4.5x32 with heavy Firefly reticle on my Marlin 45-70. The magnification is perfect for the cartridge and the scope itself has stood up well.
Leupold VX-freedom 1.5-4x20. By buddy used on his 1895 and it held up to over 250 reloads and its still going strong on other rifles now. He upgraded to the Vx3 1.5-5x leupold for the 1895. Great scope as you won’t be extending shots of 45-70 past usable 4x power anyways
I had a vx freedom 3-9x40 on my Sbl and it worked flawlessly, but I'm back to open ghost ring set up I don't need a scoped 45/70. As much as I thought I would like it,I just preferred open sights.
No great options for that rig at that budget. I guess if you can't move on the budget, I'd probably get a Vortex so that you can easily get a $0 replacement (recoil is hard on budget scopes).
I installed a skinner peep sight on my 1894 44 mag and love it.
The Leupold vx freedom 1.5-4x20 mentioned above would be my recommendation as well if your set on a scope and if its in the budget. I just picked up a VX3 1.5-5x20 and im very happy with it.
My early production Guide Gun (blued/ported) has a VX3 1.5-5 on it, only because I've never come across a VX-II 2.5 Compact when I had cash in my pants. As soon as I do, that is what it will end up wearing...
I have a 2.5x20 BSA on my 4570 and it works well. My 458wm has a Bushnell elite 3200 2-7x32 and it also works well. The last Bushnell elite 4500 1-4x20 was less than 300 before tax. It's more sharp than the 3200 and way nicer than the bsa
