Scope for a child's savage rascal?

my little girl wants to graduate up to a magnified optic from iron sights. She's turning 7 so just lookin for recommendations on a scope (or at least characteristics to consider) to mount on the savage rascal.

The rascal is drill/tapped so is either put weaver rails or just screwed in.

While it's not a magnified optic, my six year old likes the Barska red dot. The Rascal was a little big for her, and she was getting frustrated trying to learn the peep on a too-big (believe it or not) rifle. We popped the red dot on, and she started hitting not just paper, but black. That frustration went out the window.

Simmons .22 Mag scope, http://www.simmonsoptics.com/riflescopes/22_mag.aspx, in 4 x 32 might be a good start. They have "QTA™ (Quick Target Acquisition) eyepiece with plenty of eye relief to make acquiring targets a snap", so the initial ease-of-use might be well suited to a youngster. Also, they are inexpensive but decent scopes; possibly your best bang for your buck. Or her's, if she's funding this from her allowance/gift cash, ha ha.

EGW makes a mount for the rascal, and while not cheap, we bought it as we were unable to mount the relatively short Barska on the Savage Rascal mounts. This shouldn't be an issue with the Simmons, but although the Simmons comes with rings, they are for a typical 22 tip-off mount, and will not fit the Rascal's Weaver-style bases, so there's that to consider.

Of course, maybe you have a set of low rings around...

My little guy has a Banner 4x, and we will likely upgrade because he is exceeding 120 yards on tuna cans, so he would like a little more magnification to get out there. It has been a simple and clear optic to use for him.
 
I picked up one of the cheapo Cabelas house brand 3-9 rimfire scopes. I chose this scope as I figured it would eventually be dragged through the woods, scratched, and dropped a few times in the future. So far I am impressed with its clarity and holding a zero. Good scope for the price.
 
I am going to put a 4 to 12 X on my Rascal .Why because I have one and no other use for it and I have had it sitting there for over 10 years band new.

imagine my (pleasant) surprise to find that, nza has started just the thread im looking for... TODAY!

it doesnt get any more "current" than that. :d

I bought the two piece Rascal mounts from P&D for $10 and I mounted a red dot on my son's Rascal. When he gets proficient with the dot, then I may go up to a scope.

I read about others cutting and drilling a regular rail to make it work on a Rascal, that is always an option.

Maybe Friday's can be changed to "firearms for our kids" lol

This is what I'm putting on my kids rascal. 10 and 7. Both can get on paper with no problem. So
I decided they need a scope so they can go longer distance with it.

It's a 4x32 that a buddy gave me. Only cost me the rings (I need 2 mount screws too). Took this pic a few minutes ago.

 
I ended up picking up both a red dot and a 4x20 scope plus a set of weaver rail.
we'll see what she likes to use. right now, we'rd only at the 25 yards...still trying to get tight groupings with the peep sights.
 
Nikon p-22 eye relif sucks for a kid.

My kids use a Sightron S1 on the Savage and love it. Super easy to find the reticle and lots of eye relief/
