Scope for a Rem 700 5R Milspec

I just got a new set of rings for my scope with my Leupold as I just recently switched scopes from my Supersniper which I sold a while back. The leupy being a 1" and the SS being 30mm I had to order rings to match my Farrell base

For both I bought Leupold PRW rings as I didn't want to make the jump another 50 or 60$ for TPS rings and never had any issues with them.

Regardless for the last 3 years all of my purchases were from Rick at Alberta Tactical. Give him a call or email, he will set you up..

depending on your budget he has farrell and nightforce bases as well as leupold, TPS, and nightforce rings too.. don't know about badger.. but he has choices going up in price/quality and doesn't charge any more than WSS.

Every time I've ordered from him the parts arrived the next day too.. I swear he has someone on the inside in CP.

That Bushell was the scope I had in mind, my buddy just got one and it seems pretty impresive.

My comment why 5R was only to illustrate different people will like different things. In my own unbiased 5R owning opinion, good choice :)

Fixed 10x? Classic magnification (military scope spec, compromise maginfication & field of view) and a single is generally brighter than a variable

3-9x? Common hunting magnification, might be what people have, might be what are used to? What Obtunded makes sense though, if punching paper higher is better when rest available. I suggested 20-24? with the question mark suggesting you need to decide if steady, bright, affordable enough.

Back to reticles, Zeiss makes a rapid Z that is very functional if not like mil-dot. I still like FC as very little clutter (that and have a range finder).

Personally I went with basic stainless weaver mounts, was told cant tighten them down enough to break anything, crank them down (with a bit of lock tight), and am using Burris rings to get the scope centred and use up down elevation for zero (so have more up left) with the inserts.

By the way I hear they are releasing 5R milspec rifles in .223 and 300 WM now :).

There are lots of good options for scopes out there.

I have a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x 50mm with the Rapid Z 1000 yard reticle. Leupold bases and Leupold PRW rings on my 5R. I love it. My rifle shoots very well with this set up.

At first I was worried that the reticle for this scope would be too thick. I think it's perfect after using it. The scope tracks beautifully, the glass is excellent and the reticle is great . The only disadvantage is the lack of MOA adjustments. That being said the reticle allows for very quick and accurate shooting with known distances.

The lack of MOA elevation isn't really an issue with this type of reticle. For a rifle that will be shot in the 100-500 range most of the time, It's great. If you plan on shooting mostly 1000 yard, then you might want to go the old fashioned way of dialing it in with a scope that has more MOA. If 1000 is rare then I'd consider the Rapid Z set up.

The marks on the Zeiss Conquest allow for ranging. Just like mil-dots.
The glass on my Conquest scopes seems to be right up there with my NF scopes. Only at 1/2 the price. Don't get me wrong I really like my NF scopes, but I also really like my Conquest scopes, and the conquest seems to suit the 5R very well.

I have a elite 4200 tactical 6-24 x 50 with 30mm tube. It tracks really well, has great optics and is fairly light with great target knobs. I have owned Mark 4's and Nightforce scopes which are fabulous scopes, but this scope is a "best buy" in my opinion as far as value is concerned. Best tactical scope for under $800.
 
I use and like the Bushnell elite 4200 tactical , I have two, it has 30 mm tube ,6-24x , 50mm obj, target knobs, side focus, midot reticle, paid about $600. only complaint is amount of elevation/moa adjustment around 44 moa bottom to top, you will need a 20 moa base to get to 880yds. the reticle is a little thick to my likeing but to each there own. I also use the Bushnell elit 3200 fixed 10x ,1" tube, target knobs ,mildot and I really like it,lots of moa adjustment and priced around $230 .

Hey, if you can't have fun with the Milspec-mania (similar to Beatlemania with fewer teenaged girls and in color) then there's something wrong.

But on a serious note, look at the Leupold 10x that Rick has on his new and proved site. Would be a fine choice and, dare I say it, Milspec.
