So I basically impulse bought a RAR and needed a scope and rings. Maximum budget was $200 so I went with a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire II 3-9x40 BDC and Warne 22 rings. Did I make the right choice or should I cancel the order and look at something else?

That's what I got on my 17 hmr. It's great. Even a cheap Nikon like that has good glass for the price. You could even get the spot in app find out the drop. But not rally needed. Imo great scope for the job.

I have the original Prostaff Rimfire 3x9 on my CZ512. The optics is excellent for a $200 scope. Not a target scope by any means as it only has 1/2 MOA adjustmens. I don't care for the BDC reticle but it is OK for hunting/plinkig. Probably the best rimfire scope value in that price range. You did good.

Got the scope today. The glass is surprisingly clear for how cheap this was. The turrets also feel very nice and the overall quality is very good. I've never handled a scope in this price range that feels this nice. One thing I didn't realize is that it is 1/4" per click but only at 50 yards. So fine adjustments at 100 yards won't be possible. Oh well, lesson learned for next time. Not a big enough issue for me to justify returning it.

I'm buying the same scope for the same RAR but struggling to decide on 3-9 or 4-12. First time shooters. Teaching my boy. Just target shooting. The 3-9 is on top of many lists as the best and 4-12 always further down. 50 yard or 75 yards parallax is a diff between the two. $10 diff between the two. Thoughts? Would like to look through a 4-12 to see the close in fuzzy focus for myself. Maybe it is pretty good by my standards. You can say you are a good all player. But it doesn't mean a ton as it is a pretty subjective statement and depends on the company you keep, and what you're used to.

I rather like an adjustable objective for a 22LR. This one (pick the 3-9 A/O x 32 model) for $100 might be worth checking out, a fair number of people like it.

Shim Leupold Rifleman rings on RAR

Has anyone tried to shim a scope mounted with the Leupold Rifleman rings? I just took off my Warne QD 721 rings to try these See through rings.
When using the Warne ones, I almost ran out of travel on the elevation turret at 100 yards. So I likely wouldn't be able to dial in much beyond that.
The Warne ones would be easy to shim, the Leupold ones not so much.

Having not done it before, I am taking an educated guess. Turn the elevation turret to about midpoint to give plenty of left over travel in the up direction, then put brass shim stock under the the scope in the aft ring.
