I have a 870 express with a Hastings 26" Rifled cantilever barrel and I'm wondering what scope I should get for it.

This scope will only be on my rifled barrel for deer hunting

I dont really wanna spend more then $300 for a scope. Do I need a scope made for shotguns?? with the extra eye relief. Never shot a shotgun with a scope before, just used iron sights with my smoothbore the last 5 years.

i like the Bushnell Legend 2-7x i have on my H&R slug gun. it wont break the bank at ~$150, and has a wide field of view of 56 feet @2x mag (12 feet more than the Elite 3200 2-7 @2x). the ocular is the biggest part so you can mount it nice and low.
admittedly the high 7x setting is a total waste on a shotgun scope, but it doesnt come in a 1.5-4x model. it stands up to a lot of recoil: this scope survived thousands of rounds on my Mini-14 (without a recoil buffer) and it is still working flawlessly (Minis are brutal on scopes). the Legend series is about as cheap as i would ever go on a Bushnell.

2-7 is a really useful power range so if you decide you dont like it on your shotgun you can always relegate it to a beater rifle.
i havent had many good experiences with lower-end red-dots and reflex sights ($100-300). if i ever bought one again it would be one of the high end models.

I am likely going to order the same barrel so I am waiting with bated breath to hear how yours works!

I have a 1.5-5 B&L on a .243 I was gonna put on the Hastings, but I want to look at Aimpoints first.

The shooting can be short and fast, or longer ( 100m+) here during the controlled hunt.

Get shooting that barrel and let me know! Good Luck! :)

you dont really want a big big magnification cause itll give you the impression you can shoot that far
