New member and new shooter here. Would appreciate your advice on the best scope to get for the CZ 457 Training Rifle. I’ve enjoyed it with the open sights, but am ready to progress to a scope.

The use case will be daytime target shooting at the range, from 50-200 yards. I am also interested in trying some silhouette shooting. Hoping to keep it in the $500-750 range if possible, but willing to pay more if necessary (“buy once, cry once” I was told). Thanks!

Bushnell match pro for 600$ used, vortex viper, whatever the athlon model is - ep5?

I would go used.

You just need 12x min zoom and adjustable parallax.

I'd suggest you get some sort of 'Tree' that has some numbers, to allow you Quick hold-over. My first Bushnell Engage had a good tree but NO numbers - was a PITA to 'repeat holds' for subsequent shots. And I prefer FFP so the reticle delineations are accurate at All Magnifications. SFPs generally have a wider 'Total Elevation/Windage Adjustments' than FFPs, but holds need to be 'estimates' except at 'specific mags'.

Definitely go used with a brand that has lifetime warranty. Athlon Helos 6-24x56 (best reticle for hold overs), Vortex Venom 5-25x56, Arken EP5 (Huge Turrets that are held in by Allen screws), Bushnell Match Pro 6-24x50 is a great scope and is only lacking elevation adjustment compared to the others because it’s a 30mil tube vs 34mm. 18mils vs 28-34 or whatever others have. Match Pro bottoms out with 40moa of cant in the base. My Athlon is pushing 55moa of cant on my 457. I use illumination in all my scopes. The Bushnell is the best for this because only part of the reticle illuminates vs the entire tree.

For those shooting 100/200 Metres/yards, 24X is minimum to see your shots at 200.
32 or 36X are an asset.

There are many disciplines so take a look at a few first and learn the ins and outs of the competitions or what inspires you.

I have an Athlon 5-25x50 on my 457, use it for matches at 50 and 100 yards I have an Arkon epl4 5-25x50 on another rifle and like it as well. The illuminated reticle on the Arken is not very bright compared to others, the glass is excellent.
