What would be a scope that would be good on a 452 American? Im thinking a Leupold 2-7x33 RF? Anything else you guys would reccomend? I want a rimfire specific scope, I get alot of close shots at gophers as well as some far ones. I have an Elite 3200 on it right now but when the gophers are around 5 yards or so I loose the reticle??

Cheers!!

The Leupold is a good choise. Have you looked at the Leupold 3x9x33 EFR?? This scope has the front paralax adjustment for that close encounter.. Thats the one I'll be getting I only wish they had a fast focus ring on them like some of the Bushnell's have....enjoy

I looked at that one and am now tossing the idea of it or Weaver Classic 3-9x32 AO???

In my humble opinion, nothing more than 4x magnification is needed on a 22 rimfire. 4x will get everything out of a 22 rimfire that is there.
My version of an ideal scope would be a fixed 4x.
Again, in my opinion, those large variable scopes make a neat 22 rifle look awful.

Having a CZ452, I can tell you there is an issue of clearing the bolt handle on the ocular bell. The scope already has to be higher than you would expect to clear the bolt handle, so keep that in mind.

I bought the 3-9x33 Leupold EFR rimfire model with AO, guys on Rimfire Central rave about it and Clay from Prophet River said all guys really like it. Its a pricey scope for a rimfire but I shoot this rifle the most.

Cheers!!

Have you tried it on a CZ 452? does the bolt clear the occular?

Its sitting on my rifle right now, no issues with bolt clearence.

Scope is amazingly clear, fine reticle is very nice and the OA is adjustable to 10 yards. This gun looks really good with this scope, its compact size by no means ruins the balance or look of the gun. Thanks Clay :D

Cheers!!

I don't think you need to look any further, you have picked out a perfect optic for the rifle. If you have one and want to go with something else, let me know as my little guys scout is looking for a better optic and I'd be interested

I have a Nikon Prostaff rimfire scope on my CZ452. Under $200 and absolutely spectacular glass. I have Leupys on other rifles but too expensive for a rimfire. Looks pretty nice sitting on top of my American and you cant beat Nikon optics.
Hard to justify the extra price of a Leupy for a rimfire IMHO.

I don't get this mentality. I shoot 1000's of rounds from my rimfire. Typically aiming at small difficult to see targets for hours and hours at a time. So why not put the best glass on it? A deer rifle might only fire 10 shots a year. And at a nice big easy to see target. So that's where I would put up with cheaper glass.
That leupold scope will be great for a cz. That's what I'm going to change mine to soon. The current 2-7x28 weaver scope I have on it will then go onto my daughters cz scout I have on order from clay at prophet river. Personally if t wasn't so much bother to get a nice compact scope I would be spendig a lot
more on my rimfire scopes. But that leupold is a good balance between quality and size. Schmidt bender or swaro would be my preferred scope but they are a bit big on such a neat gun.

Leupold isn't too expensive, you get what you pay for. A Leupold VXII 6-18 AO target model sits on my CZ 452 Varmint, and a Leupold VXII 4-12 AO on my 10/22. I tried a Bushnell Banner 4-12 AO but found the crosshairs were too big.

If you poke around in the US sites, Leupold and Nikon are about equal in sales-something like 40%ea. Still although Leupold has good glass and excellent service in Canada (which seems to be the big deal with them) it is doubtful their glass will ever be as good never mind better than Nikon. Dont get me wrong-I own both and have a newer VXIII on my Ruger 30-06. Still putting a 12 or 14x on a rimfire that has an effective range of 100 yards is a little silly and can cost more than the rifle. Aside from that the VX series is not designed for rimfire. Basically if you cant see it with a 4x you likely cant either hit it or kill it. Mind you I have only been using 22s since 1965 so what do I know eh? There is no logic in putting an expensive centrefire scope on a rimfire. Aside from the focal length thing. My $0.02 .

It is worth it if for no other reason than optical quality. I was shooting gophers a few weeks ago with a cheaper weaver scope on a friends rifle. And I really noticed that compared to my zeiss binos the image was crap. I could clearly see some of the gophers hiding innthe grass in my binos. But not with the scope. And that was at about 60 yards. Plus more time looking through bad glass makes our eyes woRk harder.
That's why I fit good glass to rimfires. Not for the zoom. But the quality of image.

I have a Nikon ProStaff 4x on my custom 10/22 and its a great scope but the Leupold VX II EFR is simply better. I wanted a scope with adjustable objective, clear glass, quality and nice looks. I shoot my .22 the most out of all my rifles and to scope it with the best rimfire scope was only around $450 ( its not like you're buying S&B or Swarovski).
Weaver also makes an excellent rimfire scope with AO but I like dealing with Prophet River and thus bought the Leupold.
I would have looked at Nikon but the only specific rimfire scope they have is the fixed 4 and I wanted a 3-9 with AO.

Cheers!!
