Scope For Lever Gun

Have a 3x9 on my 94AE 30/30....1955 94 30/30...Marlin .444..358 BLR...and Savage 99 in 7mm08.
Has worked fine for me.......and like most, leave it on 3x until I feel the need for more magnification or to pick a hole in the brush to shoot through when the game is partially concealed.

Buy what ever you can afford...ran a Bushnell Banner 4 X on my #3 Ruger 45/70 from 1978 on until I could afford a new 3x9 many years later. The scope lasted a very long time on full house loads and then retired it to sit on a 22 rimfire.

I vote as well for the low-power variable; the best scope I ever had on a levergun was a...gulp....Tasco 1 to 3.5 X 20.
That said, you didn't say how much or where you might hunt. If you want a 3 to 9, fill your boots. The XLR is already fairly hefty, so a bit more weight should be okay.
I mounted 3 to 9 scopes on my .30-30 Marlins to test handloads at the range and had to put up with people whose opinion I didn't ask telling me my scope was 'way too much.
