Scope for Marlin 30-30, sub MOA rifle

I have a max budget of $400 + tax, however I would appreciate spending less.

I have been interested in the Monarch 3 2-8x40mm @ under $300 (wicked glass for price), and now I am looking at the Leupold VX-1 and VX-2 at ~$300 and just under $400.

Hunting mostly in bushes under 100 yards. I want to be capable of 200 yard shots on deer, and under 100 yards for moose.

Let me know your input, opinions, experiences etc..

Got a Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 on mine. Mounted on a rail with leupold QRW rings so I can take it off and use iron sights as well.

2-8x meets for your hunting requirements.

Many moons back I had nothing but Bushnell Elite scopes and have since migrated to Leupold VX-3s. I am happy with them.

I never warm up to Nikon scopes.

Or as mentioned before vortex diamondback

Both are great scopes for the money. Well under budget, and will do what you are asking for. Use the savings for good bases/rings and ammo.

And both those scopes have lifetime warranty. Not a bad thing to have for a scope mounted on a bush gun.
 
Thanks guys, already looked at the redfields, not sure what people think of their clarity though.. Looked at some scopes again today and I think I'm going for a Vortex Viper 3-9x40. It showed more definition at long distance than the VX-2, and the diamondback was as clear as the viper in the center, but a bit blurry on the edges. The Viper has a super solid click system and seems like a winner. The picture on it was nice and big too.

The only thing is that I'm not sure if I should get a 3-9 scope for a brush gun.. There is a 2.5-10 viper for a lot more money, but I don't want to spend over $400.

Choosing a scope is way harder than I thought.
 
I just really wish there was a 2-7 viper. It was discontinued so chances of one being in stock somewhere are slim.. Is the VX-2 decent in low light?
